Egyptian god of the dead, represented as a black jackal or dog, or as a man with the head of a dog or jackal. After the early period of the Old Kingdom, he was superseded by Osiris as god of the dead, being relegated to a supporting role as a god of the funeral cult and of the care of the dead. The black colour represented the colour of human corpses after they had undergone the embalming process. In the Book of the Dead, he was depicted as presiding over the weighing of the heart of the deceased in the Hall of the Two Truths. His principal sanctuary was at the necropolis in Memphis and in other cities.
This poseable plush stands nearly 12 inches tall. Decked out in gold and jewels, this plush is a true representation of the God of the Dead.
As a big fan of mythology, Egyptian mythology especially, I can safely say that this is an awesome figure, despite what the prudes on here say (I'm looking at you, Nicole). it is very well-crafted and true to the general designs of Anubis found in Ancient Egyptian mythology. My only real complain tis with the staff; the blue half-beads on it are glued on instead of sewed on (despite holes on the beads to be sewn in), and the glue doesn't hold, very well; one half-bead fell off shortly after I bought it, so be sure to secure them to the staff with needle and thread as soon as you unpackage it. It's also a little hard to clean, as the instructions clearly state not to hand OR machine wash it; the manufacturers say it's to avoid "production migration", or the tendency for the stuffing in stuffed animals to compress and shift out of shape, when wet, even after drying, and I can't afford a professional cleaning for it. Other than that, it's an excellent toy, and I highly recommend it to plush animal fans and Egypt enthusiasts, alike.

As far as deities of the death go, having one be a black puppy is pretty darn good. And now his plushie avatar can help guide me into the world of cuddly afterlife.

Anyone who loves Egypt, canines, or were-creatures, this is the plush for you! I am completely in love with this stylized adaptation of Anubis, with his canine-structured legs, his paw-like hands and feet, and all over black skin/fur. It gives him very sleek and dignified look, very suitable for the God of the Dead, and it contrasts wonderfully with his gold jewelery. Pictures of this guy do NOT do him justice! He's got patterns stitched with gold thread on his collar and bracelet that you've just got to see in person to get the full impact. This guy is pretty much a must-have.

I just got him today. He's soooo cute. The little markings and jewlry are pretty well made, and he's perfect for cuddling because you can take off the litle ankh staff, as it's connected to his paw with velcro. Good for Kemetics, and Egypt lovers in gereral. His ears are kinda small, but hey. I love it. They go fast, so if you want one of these fellas, buy em quick. o.o

Absolutely wonderful; not really a plush, though, as much as a softsculpt. Still, a gorgeous addition to an altar dedicated to Anpu or for anyone with a love of Egyptology.

This stuffed Anubis is just what I had been looking for! Found him next to his Minotaur friend and took them both home. The attention to detail is excellent and so far he hasn't attempted to mummify any of my other stuffed animals! He gets along well with 'em...
