Released in March of 1997, Fifth Edition was by far the largest version of the Magic: The Gathering; basic set for its time. Fifth Edition contains a total of 429 cards, not including the basic lands.

The The Fifth Edition Starter Tournament Box comes with 12 starter tournament decks. Each deck comes with 60 random cards from the set, broken down as: 3 rare, 9 uncommon, 26 common, 22 land, and a rulebook.

Of the 429 cards in the Fifth Edition Core Set, the most famous cards are: Birds Of Paradise, Wrath of God, and Unstable Mutation.
