Darksteel Rare Artifact

**** Darksteel Colossus is a card I've been waiting for. As a Type 1 player, I can't stress enough how important this card is for beefy creature decks. Can you say Quicksilver Amulet? I can. I can also say Aether Vial, Survival of the Fittest, and Oath of Druids. Indestructability is going to turn the tables(pardon the pun)on you!!! And what better artifact to be indestructable than an 11/11 Trampler that can't be put into your graveyard for anywhere. That means NO Traumatize, NO Millstone, NO Hymn to Tourach, NO Swords to Plow.

-- By Bubba Keltch from Tonkawa,OK USA on February 11, 2004
***** I would just die to have this card in my deck! 11/11 with trample and it's indestructible! WOW!

-- By Nick from omaha,ne usa on March 21, 2004
***** I think it is a fantastic card but costs alot to play. My friend has this card and he had it in his hand when I beat him, I think it was because all the cards in his hand coast alot to play.

-- By Anonymous from Sydney on April 10, 2004
***** This card is one of the top 5 darksteel cards. It has trample and if you equip it with firesheirker say hola and goodbye baby. I think since it is 11/11 and indestructible it will always stay ll/ll even if being blocked by krosan cloudscraper 13/13 darksteel collosus will still be an 11/11.

  -- By from u.s.a on April 14, 2004
***** I got this card in my first Darksteel booster pack (jealous?) and I've been crushing my friends ever since. One of the best cards in all of MTG. And there's a lot of 'em!

-- By Anonymous from on May 10, 2004
***** This is the best card i've ever seen.

-- By Anonymous from pittsburgh,PA USA on August 20, 2004
***** I got my Darksteel Collosus in my first booster, too (not as rare as you thought?) and man, it kills all! If your friend has Altar's Light, you won't be as great as you thought with this. But when beefed up with equipments (Whispersilk Cloak and Fireshreiker, in paticular) it's astounding how much damage you can do with it.

-- By Colaman from Soda Lake on September 09, 2004
** The indestructability is good, but it IS still vulnerable to swords of plowshares as swords removes it from the game, and does attempt to destroy it in any way. But unless you are playing a fish or have a unique way of getting it into play, 11 to cast is just too much, and its ability to not sit in the graveyard is as much as a curse as it is a blessing as it removes any hopes to return it to play directly from the grave, all in all this card really isnt that good, dont let the indestructability scare you, pacifism and sandskin still works. along with hundreds of other cards.

***** I got this card in my first darksteel booster pack as well, I have to say it is a great card, it is the best card I have, and when I eqiup him with Whispersilk Cloak, he becomes unblockable. once it's out just 2 turns man. (well if they havent beefed up on life) but even then it wont take long. I Recommend Whispersilk cloak to anyone who has darksteel colossus.

-- By J-Rod from collinsville, OK USA on October 07, 2004
*** The card's stats and abilities are amazing, however the time it takes to bring one out is a killer so be warned when using this card (you SHOULD mana accelerate or find another way to bring it out other than playing the mana cost straight out).

-- By Anonymous from Canada on October 17, 2004
***** I got 3 of these and you will not believe how many packs I went through (3 boxes), this an exteremely excellent card, tip: you can get him out in 4 turns, heres how you do it, you gotta be extremely lucky, $swamps laid out, 4 dark rituals, ta-da!

***** LoL. It is the first time that I buy booster packs and I bought two today. I got this card in one of the packs. I haven't tried it yet but I'm sure it'll be good in my deck since I get Land quickly.

*** This card may work very well with the card summoner's egg.

-- By Anonymous from Columbus OH USA on November 06, 2004
***** This card is awesome, although it costs 11 mana you can see him in a great deck... Tooth and Nail!!! just think about a 4th turn entwined TnN searching him and Kiki-Jiki, its really cool and you can laugh a lot watching the reaction in your opponents face when you drop this huge thing in turn 4.

-- By Anonymous from Bogota, COLOMBIA on November 06, 2004
**** can single handedly clean house when equiped with a world slayer, use myrs and blinkmoth urns to get it out quicker!

-- By wisconsin guru from merrill, WI USA on November 26, 2004
** To play tactifully, 'Darksteel Colossus' would not been suitable. Such bulk creature has been seen shot down by a 'Vulshok Sorceror' equipped with a 'Sword of Kaldra'. There are many other card which are more powerful and faster in control deck, teaming up with others to provide a truly indestructible fortress. The value of this card may well be over-valued as it is similar to the 'Legacy Weapon' which both have the same second ability. This ability maybe good since it has the potential to give the player a everlasting library. Try and work it out!

-- By Anonymous from Sydney, NSW, Australia on December 15, 2004
***** It is very good because its industructable 11 for 11 mana but it would be better if it had trample haste first strike flying

-- By Anonymous from can on December 31, 2004
* I give it 1 star because WoTC was very stupid in making this card, especially with affinity. With tinker and black lotus in type 1, its out on turn 1. With mana acceleration it is also out fast; thankfully it can't be used in graveyard recursion decks. If you are playing against a weenie deck, you can use defense of the heart to bring out 2 giant trapling behemoths that are very hard to deal with. Most creature removal has no effect on them; only if they can't block or attack or are removed from the game. The creature wouldn't be so bad if it wasn't indestructable. This card is broken in many types of decks.

-- By Anonymous from Wisconsin, USA on January 04, 2005
***** this is one of my fav creatures in mtg i like it cause it pluss all the Kaldra armor plus world slayer makes a nice little moster you want to block but can't do to long lol ooh the fun of an idestuctable that destroyes every thing else lol instead of a 11/11 with traple lets have a 16/16/ with traple first strike and haste plus destryoing the field lol love you all.

-- By John Henry from texas on January 05, 2005
***** Play it makes you win!

***** this is teh card tinker has been waiting for....

-- By Anonymous from florida on February 21, 2005
***** man darksteel is awesome especially if u have Acquire in ur hand :) and ofocurse they dont have it in there hand but yea stealing that big brute and putting him into play w/o paying a thing is awesome, than add whispersilk, loxodon warhammer golemskin gauntlet things and yea some little cheap equip like leonin sabre and bone crusher and BLAM the tables have turned, unless they have 2 destroy artifacts or heal like crazy >.> than there dead. than again iv seen a 33/33 >.> nice equip dont remember but it gets +1/+1 for each artifact u control, add this into an arcbound and have plenty of artifacts that can give major mana like isochron sceptor and seething song >.> 5 mana a turn :P

-- By Anonymous from home on February 22, 2005
***** One of my favorites. For everyone worried about the mana cost toss in Cloudpost (locus) with four cards you can toss out the DC. As others have suggested toss on a whispersilk cloak, I also recomend the Lightning Greaves as they give DC haste and equip for zero. Nothing says loving like an 11/11 trampler.

  -- By Cole from Lufkin,Tx on February 23, 2005
*** Decent Card, good with Kiki-Jiki, Tooth and Nail; Splinter is my answer, maybe Grab the reins, that seems to piss people off since indestructable doesn't work when you sacrifice him

-- By jake from Mesa AZ on February 27, 2005
**** Good when used right, but not a cure-all. Check this: Darksteel Colossus (11) is played. Then the opponent plays a Trap Runner (3). Bam. Suddenly the Colossus isn't that good. But then, in a good big-creature deck it can be excellent. Pattern of Rebirth, Phyrexian Portal, or other cards can get it out without the beefy cost, and it can romp early on in the game. Just keep in mind that no matter how good any card seems, there is always something that can take it out easily. You just have to play it right.

-- By Steven from Tennessee on March 16, 2005
*** In some ways, colosus is overrated. It isn't worth the 11 it costs to play, final judgement, or even more simple eradicate and bye-bye colosus. However, it works well in sneak attack and tooth and nail decks.

-- By Anonymous from USA on April 15, 2005
***** I keep mentioning these cards for my fellow artifact players, cloudpost. I keep Darksteel Colossus in my side with cloudpost and have actually got him out in five rounds. toss whispersilk on him or lightening greaves. stupid plowshares.

-- By Cole from TX on April 22, 2005
***** This card is the best. An 11/11, trample, and it's UNDISTRUCTIBLE. The only part thats not-so-good about this card is that it has a high mana cost.

-- By Anonymous from Fairbanks, ALASKA on April 28, 2005
***** I use this card in my Elvish Piperdeck...I love the face of my opponents when they see a turn 4 colossus appearing

-- By Zebedius from Amsterdam on May 16, 2005
***** This thing is the evilest thing ever. tinker for colossus on turn 3, play it from your hand turn 5 w/ mycosynth golem, quicjsilver amulet it turn 4...

***** kick ass

-- By Anonymous from bitch land on May 27, 2005
***** An unbelivable card with Mycosynth Golem and an artifact deck! Get it out for next to nothing, just a little Fever charm and give it haste! and BAM possibly 9 straight to your opponents life! With Overblaze you can kill your opponent instantly!

-- By Anonymous from in front of his computer on June 11, 2005

***** 11 casting cost is nothing. Ever hear of Tinker? That's what I thought.

-- By Anonymous from Southwick, MA on July 31, 2005
***** this is one of my favorate creatures to play but i like it cause of some more deavious reasons first lets say nevinyrral's disk and second lets say leonin abunas to avoid that unholy alters light and that is how he becomes vary good along with some other shall i say unorithdox combos but at the least he makes your opponet think about weather or not to attack you lol.

-- By John JHP from colorado on August 20, 2005
* This card sucks (speccially in type 1). I honestly have no idea of what kind of crappy noobs you and your freinds are if you a) actually think its awsome and/or b) actually got killed by one/killed someone with one (excluding playing tooth an nail decks).

-- By chris from Round Rock, Texas USA on October 16, 2005
***** This card has to be oone of the best cards made. 11/11 for 11 mana, ya a little pricy in mana but its a 11/11 with trample and indestructable. This card rules!!

-- By Yes I Wrote This from Pheonix, AZ USA on November 21, 2005
***** This card is one of the best, I like to use it in conjunction with Shifty Doppleganger (older version) which gets it out on the table with haste for much less mana, all enough to catch your opponent offguard. And yes, it's indestructible so you don't have to sacrifice it where the doppleganger would normally put your used creature. 4XDoppleganger, Various armor/protection for them, 4XDarksteel Colossus, who's scared now?

-- By Shawn from Clermont, FL USA on December 11, 2005
***** Tinker, anyone?

-- By Anonymous from belgium on December 18, 2005
* Pacifism and its useless, stealartifact and its done, sword of kaldra and it is gone, this card is really easy to get rid of. Its high mana cost is to much for most players to use, and by the time it is out, it could be too late to accomplish anything. I only use my 4 darksteel collosus with mycosnyth golems, so i get rid of their cost. Then have a leonin abnus make them invulnerable to ur opponent, then you have something to work with.

-- By Anonymous from Cincinnati, OH USA on January 25, 2006
***** This card ROCKS!!! just put lots of mana in your deck, and if your opponent has a deck with lots of small bad creatures (such as myr's) so they can block attacks, WHO CARES? dark steel collossus has trample!!!

-- By Anonymous from canada on February 09, 2006
***** This is a great card, IF you know how to use it. I was reading some of the other reviews. AND YOU GUYS GO TO COMPEITIONS hahahaha! First off do not use the mana cost to get it out, everybody knows that. You never pay a creatures mana cost. This card would take 11 turns to get it out. You need to use Quicksilver amulet from Urzas legacy. You can put any creature into play for the mana cost of 4. Now that would go great with this card. and you can even go extreme quickness to put this into play by using a couple dark rituals and Quick silver amulet. Personally i do not use creature decks. I usally use burn decks. THIS IS A GREAT CARD!!!!!!! This website is amazing to such cheap cards holy crap! BEST MAGIC WEBSITE EVER

***** mycosynth lattice, mycosinth golem, then colossus. thats all i got to say

-- By Anonymous from usa on March 02, 2006
*** even though its an 11/11 you can easily bump it and make the player repay it or even control it if you have the right cards... indestructability is over-rated...

-- By Anonymous from Nowhere on March 05, 2006
***** can't talk. stilll drooling since i beat the snot out of my neighbor.

-- By crowemaster from chicago, IL usa on March 05, 2006
***** In a well constructed deck this card is a force to fear. With stats like 11/11 who wouldn't fear a monster of that size? Also his indestructible makes him a real pain to get rid of once he's out. Finally if he's destroyed or sent to the graveyard he simply returns to your library ready to come out in a later round. Besides his high cost this is a fun card to use and I would recommend it if you like beefy creatures. :)

-- By Scott from PA USA on March 14, 2006
***** It is simple! It is called Oath of Druids (look it up)

  -- By Anonymous from Oswego,NY on May 16, 2006
*** I agree that this cards indestrutability can be easily overcome with cards such as pacifism and fates fetters, but the high mana cost can be easily overcome, can you say elvish piper? I give it three stars because I cant tell you how many times my indestructable creatures have been removed by reciprocate or plowshares.

-- By Anonymous from Aerie of the Firemind on May 18, 2006
**** A massive hulking creature with 11/11 sounds pretty fun doesn't it? And it also has trample and indestructible. So what's the catch? It costs 11 mana to summon. . .sounds rough. However there are many cards that help you get out enough mana to bring out this beefy creature out without much trouble at all. So if you're looking for a card that's big and fun give this one a try.

-- By Scott from USA on May 30, 2006
***** this card is leathal in the right hands (i.e me) if you like whuppin ass like me then grabba thissa cardda! WWIIKKIIDD!!   -- By Anonymous from Winnipeg on December 25, 2006
***** My friend plays two of these in a deck that is built to remove early opponent's creatures while racing mana gathering for a few turns... the key to the deck is TOOTH AND NAIL=game over. Once he managed to pull them out 4th turn.

-- By Anonymous from Albany, NY on January 21, 2007
***** hey i have two of these in my artifact deck and i use it with the card tooth and nail, it costs 5 colorless and 2 green for its effect but it is an entwine card so pay 2 more colorless and u can use both effects. its effect is search your library for up to 2 creature cards and put them into your hand, or put up to 2 creature cards from your hand into play so by turn 5 you have 2 11 trample indestructibles

-- By Matt from Rapid City, SD on January 31, 2007
**** this is one beefy card, il give you that. problem for most of the reviews thus far is that no one has mentioned the one card which doesnt make this hard to get out... anyone ever heard of elvish piper? : tap, pay 1: put creature card (of any size) from your hand into play. i got this baby out on turn four, and then got out darksteel collosuss in turn five.. try putting four of them in a deck with four pipers, and four blanchwood armours... suddenly you've got four potential 35/35 darksteels, or two 70/70's (if you use two blanchwoods on two... and get out 24 lands..) unlikley, but a nice thought :) if you havent already thought of this idea, then... i know... i am amazingly awesome.... and , oh yeah.. you're grateful and that.. darn right you are. in conclusion, this is an awesome card. not the best card, but an awesome one nonetheless.

-- By jimmy from Hereford, England on February 19, 2007
***** Crystal Vein, Lotus Petal, Tinker. First turn Darksteel Colossus. Losing after that brings shame to yourself and your family.

-- By Anonymous from a school computer. on April 04, 2007
**** Delightful kill card in Vintage comedy combos, or in Extended with our old friend the Urzatron, or new acquaintance, the Vesuvapost. I personally think it's hilarious to give him a Worldslayer and go to town in multiplayer. Don't try running it if you aren't going to be able to play him, though, and he obviously can't be graveyard recursed. Definitely replaced Verdant Force as the canonical Timmy card, though it has a challenger in the newer, even more expensive Autochthon Wurm.

-- By Anonymous from Edmonton, AB CA on April 09, 2007
*** Affinity creature like mry enforcer and energy tap them will put this babe out in about 5 turns min.

-- By aaron dardik from In front of my computer on June 23, 2007
***** Tinker!

-- By Darren from Canada on July 22, 2007
***** Um...am I the only one who tinkers out my darksteel every time? Good alternate win condition for my sensei deck. Darksteel is meant to be tinkered, not hard-casted. I've hard-casted my darksteel colossus only a few time. Second turn tinker--darksteel makes my opponents angry every time. "Swords to Plowshares" kills darksteel, and if you only have one creature, "Diabolic Edict" can get rid of him too. Also, don't forget him being bounced back to your hand. Although all of this CAN get rid of him, "Whispersilk Cloak" or plain counters keeping him alive for the few turns you need to win isn't too hard. If I could have my pick of any creature of the field, it would be this one.

-- By Robert from Coventry, on July 28, 2007
***** Tinker + Darksteel shd be the best combo with it, try it ^^

  -- By Sl4YeR from Italy on October 21, 2007
***** This is the best card in the game. With no way to kill it, no way to realy stop it, and no way to beat its AWSOMNESS, this card is just great. I got one of these from Troll and Toad cause they have the best prices. Anyone who ever reads this needs to get it. There is one downside you need eleven mana to put it oun in play. but i have devised a way to get in on the feild on turn three USING COMMONS

-- By Newton Zachedry from Dublin CA USA on November 06, 2007
*** It's not as good as you think it is. Sure, the 11/11 indestructible that can only be removed from game is great, there is ALWAYS a counter to it. You could constantly add -1/-1 counters to it so its defense is 0 which would "kill" it or force the player to sacrifice it. There are numerous cards that will do that. Also a Pacifism or continuous phasing effect will hold it off. It's not the best and most certainly can be beaten.

-- By Osterius from Altoona, PA on November 24, 2007
***** I personally like this big dude, but for 11 mana, it can be dealt with very easily. If only this had shroud, control magic anyone?

-- By SpartanLion from South Hadley, MA on January 16, 2008
***** Such a fun card. First turn, forest and Concordant Crossroads, 2nd turn forest, Rofellows, Llanowar Emissary and a Seeker of Skybreak, 3rd turn, nother land and a Elvish Piper. Use the Elvish Piper to put out the Darksteel Colossus and I have mana left over to play a Blanchwood Armor on him. That means on my 4th turn I can play Mythic Proportions on the Darksteel Colossusand have a 23/23 indestructible trampler with haste! I also have enough mana left to cast a Might of Oaks. Needless to say that I own the game.

-- By Big T from Esky, Michigan, US on February 02, 2008
*** this card is cool but for one blue mana i can just Extract it from your deck right outta the game

-- By Anonymous from nowhere, ohio usa on March 07, 2008
* Hmm probly the easiest card to kill. Can anyone say Fairy Trickery??? I can. When you want to put it out, I counter it and guess what, It wont go into your graveyard, itll get removed from game. Pimply a weak card.

-- By Anonymous from Cheesevile Ohio on March 14, 2008
***** I think this card has many uses most of of these combos have been said but im just saying the people that gave a low rateing and tells how bad the card is fact is it's great and need to look at its pros rather than its cons.

-- By Anonymous from Punxsutawney, PA on March 19, 2008
***** I personally think this card is great, and i would love to get a few of these.

-- By Changer from Niagara Falls, Ont. Canada on March 24, 2008
*** 3 Stars, and this is why: Yay: Powerful creature, unkillable, and trampling. That's pretty crazy. Nay: 11 casting cost is unpleasant unless you have uncanny luck, or have mycosynth going on. More often than not, it will just slow you down unless you specifically gear your deck towards it. Even then, it's still luck. And besides, I have one word to deal with it forevar in the worst possible way: Arrest. ^_^

-- By Jonathan Hynes from Cania on April 20, 2008
***** Perfect for a reanimation deck...think about it...

-- By Derin from Socorr, NM USA on April 29, 2008
**** A great card, but IT CAN be plowed (Swords to Plowshares)...that's out of the game, no graveyard. Splinter not only removes a target artifact from the game, but removes all of the same artifact from that player's library, hand, etc. A Darksteel can also be Crib Swap-ed, and I'm sure there's more (Oblivion Ring). I love the look on a Tol-Cad (Tolarian Academy) player's face when their 11/11 becomes a 1/1 with no powers via Crib Swap and they don't get to gain any life from the process. Ahhh...sad.

-- By Anonymous from Tulsa, OK USA on May 21, 2008
***** if you want this card out quickly, then you need elvish piper and shield of kaldra or whispering cloak. with elvish piper out all you need is one green mana and he is out for 1. count it 1. no need for haste if he is out that fast.

-- By Parsley from Mayfield, KY USA on June 07, 2008
***** This dude would pound phage without any bad effects! Best card ever!

***** Yeah it can be sworded but you get 11 life.

-- By Anonymous from Somewhere on June 10, 2008
*** This card is great, yes. but if your opponent can get this out on turn 1 they have MUCH better options. Like winning on turn 0.

-- By Anonymous from PA on July 14, 2008
***** Still not sure how you plan on winning before the game starts, but yeah there are better ways to try and win turn one. Doesn't make it any less deserving of 5 stars though.

-- By Sean from Knoxville on August 07, 2008
* people i know make far too big of a deal about this card. for one thing, its high casting cost makes it vulnerable to cards like terashi's grasp (i know that that card destroys, but i'm only using it to describe other cards i can't think of that remove from the game). also, it's high power and toughness make it a huge target for any cards like boros fury-shield (which i use all the time). in addition, artifacts in general are easy to deal with because so many cards remove them rfom the game. finally, its presence makes anyone who plays it a HUGE target in multiplayer games. In those, it costs you the game to defeat another player... in tournaments, this card is too slow, and in any other situation, its too easily dealt with, so stop making such a huge deal out of such a flawed card What MTG needs to do is give a few cards protection from all colors AND protection from colorless that can't be countered. THEN i'd be impressed

*** i appreciate the fact that if you get this card out you can win really easily, but its the getting it out thats the problem. If you were playing a serious match against a competent opponent, the chances of using it are vertially nil. Still a great gloat item to boast about.

**** I love this card. I think the art is terrific and it has a small deck feel even as a giant creature. I'm aiming to use it in a kithkin deck as the hammer where it is not necessary in order to win but it is capable of turning the tide in a situation where play has extended into an area where most medium to small creature decks are uncomfortable. Of course I had to work it into the theme of the deck, which is important to me. Sweet card.

** None of u know what ur sayin. its has very few things about this card that are good, but is mostly the worst card. I cant believe u can rate highly of, ive ben playin n researchin this game way longer than uze. world tornoments arent that hard after i spend ages anlaysin their decks. u ppl dont know the real differnce with a petty card n a top card. Pro -good in green -insetructible -makes em loose 1/2 of life -can be used in any deck colour -tinker and trash for treasure work - few other stuff... Con -blue mage force spike or daze -treacharry, etc... -swords of plowshare -discard decks kik its heinie, via making u discard it or mana creatures etc... -red burns ur mana creautes -DIABOLIC EDICT -white weenie -wrath of god or damnation -armageddon -stone rain deck -black land destroy, negative land effect deck -green land destroy -etc... etc... the list goes on Please dont leave reviews wen u have no idea with how the relate to other magic cards. Dont anlalyize the card itself, think how it handles different theats.

*** Darksteel colusses sucks, its makes you think you can beat anything but suddenly your enemy remove from game or make you sacrifice it, and then you have just spend all your time for getting the mana and, then you just lost the game, very simpel way to loose if i know my enemy has Darksteel Colossus i make him return the card to his hand again after putting on the board whit Unsummon, and ther again a simple way to win becouse whos has 11 lands down at once? :O oh wait. tinker. i guess i'm a bloody spacker.

***** it's my first time buy magic card, with 5 packs that i bought, i got 6 darksteel colosus!!!!!! is this card really that good and rare? i got 6 one shot..........how.......

**** Great card, but it's lacking something. Find a way to give it shroud (like protective bubble) and it will almost never leave play. If you give it an equip card called Dead-Iron Sledge, it pretty much gains deathtouch. This card pretty much only fits into giant/artifact decks.

***** I came up with the best strategy for getting my darksteel colossus (and platinum angel, inkwell leviathan, etc.) onto the field quickly. I have a card (master transmuter or something) that lets me swap out one artifact in play for another in my hand at only the cost of a blue mana. So I couple that with the myr I have that can turn a mana into an artifact, that lets me play an expensive artifact like darksteel colossus for only the cost of returning an already tapped mana to my hand. Not to mention (with a great deal of luck) you can pull that off in about five turns. I DESTROYED my friend with that combo.

***** no, its not perfect for a reanimation deck. if its sent to the graveyard, well...shuffle it back up! but still...cards like these make you really love tinker. if you say this card is bad, you've never heard of tinker...an 11 on turn 3?! you don't to be playing against that...

-- By greg from here on February 26, 2009
* sure this guy is great and all but with the new sets out that dont deal in direct destruction and more of indirect destructions (aka wither, phasing, or just bluntly rfging) even sorceress queen can beat it to a pulp he plays dark steel colosus then next turn attacks Sorceress queen turns it to a 0/2.

***** Im not used to playing affinity, but i just swapped out a few of my old cards to make space for the new artifact creatures and such featured in conflux and shards... And let me tell you... WOW! Master Transmuter and the Colossal Colossus Are, indeed a fine combo... Chrome mox on turn one, then the sculpter. Master transmuter on turn two thanks to the sculpter and a land. Turn three- Swap out the mox for the colossus. Damn... Just be sure to have some counter power cause once this colossus hits play he has a bullseye on his forehead... Thank you path of Exile...

-- By devin spire from southpark on March 30, 2009
* Absolutly overrated. too many ways to block it. With pacifism AND a warp artifact it becomes a pain in the ass of the owner, since it's you can't bury it. A counter spell or an unsummon, and the tinker becomes useless. A control creature o control artifact, and it's a mess. A circle of protection: artifact and all the time to summon it will be wasted. An artifact ward on a simple Tundra wolves (or any other fast white creature) and you can block it with ease. Off course it can't be played for full cost, the game would end before you could, and if you still could any counter spell would do (counter spell, power sink,...)

***** Ugh. The fundamental truth to magic is there is a way to stop every card and/or combo. For example: Pyroblast works well on blue, Energy Flux ruins artifact decks, and Chill slows red decks to a Standstill. That said, it's awfully fun to have your starting hand be 3 Islands, 2 Mox Diamonds, 1 Tinker, and a Tangle Wire. Not that it's likely I will ever manage that again, but it was still fun. And even in that situation, somebody could just cast Force of Will on the Tinker. Fortunately that wasn't the case that time.

***** Turn three with mana excel and elvish piper. Very difficult to deal with a turn 3 DS-C. Also if you play some enlightened tutors you can search for them and just keep playing them. Very nasty. *shivers*

-- By Xarr from Colorado on May 22, 2009
***** I love the fact that I built a deck that works wonders with artifact lands and then the next day they banned them because of the whole ravager and disciple of the vault combos. I have actually pulled a Darksteel colossus on the first turn. I had tolarian academy, ornithopter, black louts, mox sapphire, and proteus staff. I really pulled this in a game against my cousin and he was like WTF! I played tolarian, ornithopter, black louts, and mox sapphire. Tapped Tolarian academy to produce 3 blue. Played proteus staff. Sacked black louts to produce 3 blue to activate proteus staff on my ornithopter and pulled Darksteel colossus. He was dead by turn 3. I WAS HAPPY TO SAY THE LEAST.

-- By Lazyspacetater from Indiana on June 19, 2009
*** This card is utterly pointless, what's the point of having an 11/11 trampler that costs eleven to play if you can't reanimate it because the moment it goes into the graveyard, it gets shuffled right back into the deck, this card is one of the dumbest to have in your deck, unless the deck is a tooth and nail deck.

***** Great card, had a strat to get him out for nothing and buff him to a billion/billion impossible? not at all, with an artifact deck i made i could easily do it and with it in the new Core set, say hello to Master Transmuter

-- By Anonymous from FL on August 07, 2009
***** I have two in my colossus deck. With cards like polymorph, proteus staff and tinker combined with blinkmoth nexus, goblin assault and faerie conclave its easy to get him out 4th and 5th turn. And with sculpting steel youll easily have two or three out by the 5th or sixth turn.

-- By siberianexpress1 from denham springs, LA on August 14, 2009
***** For the ones that doubt that you can get this guy out in turn is are MORONS!! Turn one: Slap down 3 Phyrexian Walker or anything that is a total of 3 artifacts with out paying mana, then play a Tolarian Academy and play Tinker, then BAM, turn one Darksteel Colossus!!

**** I wonder why nobody mentionned using Channel (green sorcery spell who let you convert HP into mana) ? It sure cost you 11 life, but that is an alternative solution to bring this behemoth in just two turns without spending lot of money to aquire a black lotus.

-- By Anonymous from Montreal, QC, Canada on September 14, 2009
** I have this card, and it has one major flaw. It can be exiled/pacified.

-- By Tyler from Evansville, IN USA on October 29, 2009
**** UGH! I am so tired of people listing things like Counterspell, pacifism, and swords to plowshares as reasons for giving a creature a low rating. I guess you people must hate all creatures, because pretty much every single creature in the game is vulnerable to spells like these. Also, can we please stop repeating the same things that 10 people have already posted. Elvish Piper or Tinker, we get it. Enough already. Stop wasting everyone's time. OK, I'm done venting now. Anyway, this is a very good card that can be very useful if you put the time and effort into building your deck properly..

**** To all of those of you who disagree with the Darksteel Colossus being a good card; there's always going to be an answer for everything. Sure, you can easily put an end to Darksteel Colossus IF YOU'VE GOT THE RIGHT CARDS. People saying "It's too expensive" have never seen an Elvish Piper (or other cards of the same kind). People arguing that you can easily stop the colossus have never heard that there's no "ultimate way" of winning the game. Even the best combo deck will fizz if met by a well-timed answer. And even Progenitus with its "Protection from everything" dies to a "mere" Wrath of God or Day of Judgement. Darksteel Colossus is good. If nothing else, you can always insta-cast it with a Dramatic Entrance on your 5th turn or earlier. Also, this card is mostly Timmy-ish. Why else would they want to print something like an 11/11 creature for 11 mana? - mostly because it brings fun and excitement to the game. I once won the game right after my opponent had played a Colossus. I was playing the Swarm & Slam deck (I hadn't modified it yet), and drew a perfectly timed Echoing Courage and dealt him 33 damage in a single swing. I can still remember how he was confident of his victory after having played the 11/11, but as I mentioned before - there's always a solution to any problem. That's the way Magic works.

*** 6 Darksteel Colossus cards in 5 packs...ok, buddy, whatever you say. Did you also know that the word gullible is not in the dictionary?

-- By Anonymous from The United States of America on December 17, 2009
***** Amazing card! If you make a combo for it.For example: have 4 show and tell, 1 Tinker, lands like 4 ancient tomb, 4 city of traitors, any artifacts like 4 mox diammond, 1 mox sapphire or/and 4 crome mox and 4 collossus. Then have any mox + ancient tomb/City of traitors + tinker/show and tell + darksteel = cast him on first turn! for a best effect put cloak of mirrors on deck and he cant be target of a unsummon or bumerang, or a swords to plowshares. You will have a fast win!

*** I used to use this card in my "miracle grow" deck, the deck concept was to build up a ton of land FAST and than dump a ton of tokens out or go for kill with strength of cedars. This was a good back up when ever I could not get my designed kill. This was the also the first card I ever pulled in an M10 booster. The primary deck that I am running now is an Elf Ball deck, The idea is to get out a tone of elves to produce a ton of mana, and than fireball/bane my opponent for the win. With most decks this is a fail card, however I feel that it is a good card for any deck that can produce 11 mana with in 3-5 turns, or cast it from their hand or library. The only reason I run this card in my sideboard is for when I am going against a player that is running a lot of life regen, or if i am playing in a Two Headed Giant match. All in all I give this card a C- due to its high casting cost. I feel that you can do a lot more with 11 mana than get out darksteel colossus (who can be taken out of commision relativley easy.

** It is a good and a very powerful card BUT I've shut down many of my friends who's had them in their decks and in play with my Blue/Red Stasis Burn Deck. In this deck, of course, 4 tinkers, 4 stasis's, many cards & abilities that help generate mana, few creatures with direct damage abilities but lots of (and I mean lots) sorceries and instants that deal direct damages to creatures and players. How good is Colossus if it can't untap during player's upkeep? Even if it does (in case Stasis is removed), by the time it happens I already have enough mana, direct damage sorceries and instants that can terminate a player in a heart beat. I've done this many many times now I don't need a Colossus to scare my buddies....lol

***** Try This. Turn 1:Your Hand: Seat of the Synod, Lotus Pedal, Mana Vault/Sol Ring, tinker Play Seat Of The Synod-Artifact Blue Land Tap seat of the synod to play Sol Ring/Mana Vault Tap Sol Ring/Mana Vault for 2 or 3 colorless mana Sacrifice lotus petal for a blue mana Use the two colorless and blue mana to play tinker Sacrifice Sol Ring/Mana Vault Then search your library for Dsteel Collosuss and put it into play Alternative if your Rich or lucky and have a Black Lotus: Play black lotus Play an artifact land or Ornithopter/any artifact that is 0 cost Sacrifice the Lotus for 3 blue mana and play tinker Sacrifice the ornithopter/phyrexian walker/ornithopter etc. Play Colossus

**** yeah this this completely impossible to hardcast, but im my tooth and nail deck, i fetch 2 of these and its game over 95% of the time. nobody can stand up to the assault of two 11/11's w/ trample that are indestructible.

* its costed is way to much and even if you do get him out theres bunches of ways to kill him. you are a fool if you think i will let you keep him on the table. stangg is the best magic monster cuz he is 2 in 1 and hes red and green and those are best colors. in magic.

**** with a multycolour deck... ok, with tinker, great, with diplomatic imunity, great.... hard to get out? impossible without something like tinker... easy to counter? with the right cards yes... a stasis cacoon or pasifism will stop it in its track... to play this card in your deck u either have to us it as ur main and only stratigy... or a backup to throw them off while u get something else out... like a Memnarch or the 4 stations, or baneslayer, ect... BUT an opponent unprepared for a darksteel colosssus... devistating... and a tinker-darksteel colossus combo can win the game easly in less then 8 turns... not to mention a longterm planning always helps to draw a tinker to draw a colossus... against blue and whit you may have a problem... but ur pretty safe palying red or green decks with colossus.. they tend to have less removals... i this card in my deck and it has made for some nice early game victories.
