At summer’s height the city of Toran is alive with beauty. Its painted rooftops take on the hue of forest fruits, the banners of countless knights and nobles flutter in the gentle wind and the Sun God Kai blesses its snow-white ramparts with the warm, soft light of life. The glittering gulf bows down in tribute before its mighty stone walls. The streets are never empty and never dull, for the summer is a time of much merriment and trade. Protected by the magic of the Brotherhood of the Crystal Star, Toran is a shining beacon of hope and light in Magnamund.

For the agents of Naar this light is a beacon of an altogether different kind. To them Toran is a candle begging to be extinguished, a smouldering ember that refuses to die and threatens to ignite the ashes all around it. The Darklords would cherish few things more than to see Toran fall and to reap the souls of its wizards from the ashes. Their agents have made countless attempts, both subtle and overt, to bring the city to its knees. So far none have come close.

The Darklords’ servants have chosen a beautiful summer morning as the setting for the latest of their unholy schemes. Unknown to the rulers of Toran, a plan is in motion that could raze the city’s defences and leave it perilously open to the corruption of the Darklords. The wizards of the Crystal Star will soon find themselves facing a threat that could end their reign of peace and prosperity forever.
