Breakscore® is very much a classic table-top board game that's ideal for 2, 3, 4 or more players and like the great strategic board games (and successful shows such as South Park, Futurama and the Simpsons), can be enjoyed by both young and old alike.
The aim of the game is to race others to the enzone and win with the highest score. Along the way there are plenty of twists and turns that ensure that each game develops its own unique form and that winner isn't known until the very last play of the cards or the dice.
The game starts by the counters and both sets of cards being placed on the board. Players roll all six dice to start their turn, attempting to score as many points as possible without zouching (a scoreless roll).
The cards are a mix of good, bad and plain ugly! Some cards will give you extra points or future advantage, while others will create a challenge which must be met. Will you succeed or will you be penalised?
If a player has a good run and scores with all six dice, it's a boomer! The player then has the choice of taking a boomer card or not. Boomer cards are mainly good ..... but a couple bite!
Remembering the cards that have already come out can be crucial particularly when cards are low and the stakes are high. Have you been watching and taking note? Have all the uglies gone? Will you take a card or pass?
Once a player is no longer willing to risk losing their breakscore®, they sit and move their counter. If they then land on an occupied square, they zap that player, and back that player goes. Player interaction makes the game interesting and sometimes heated .... but remember it's just a game and a fun one at that!
Be aware of the board squares to avoid. Don't land on miss-a-turn squares or the voids. Go for the extra turn squares and the zeds as even when you think all is lost you might get a card that could radically change your position. One of the best features of Breakscore® is that it's never over till it's over!
The game reaches its climax once one of the players lands in the enzone. Now all the other players have one last-ditch attempt to catch up and win. It's now or never, so go for broke and roll the max! |

This board game is fun for the whole family. There is enough luck for the kids, and enough tactics for the grown-ups. You're never out of the game, because you can get some huge scores with a good run of the dice and with the assistance of the cards positions can dramatically change, so there's no runaway leader problem. Never a dull moment. Full of excitement, laughs and groans. Highly recommended!

BreakScore is an outstanding game that I always want to play. You might think I'm biased because I designed the games (there are three in the one case) but apart from chess, and occasionally backgammon, they (Break-Away, BreakScore and Champ-Play) are the games that do it for me.
I like it that there's no repetition and that you can't take anything for granted ... it can be wild as positions change at any stage for the better and the worse! ... I like it that anything is possible ... I can get real lucky but then in a split-second everything can and sometimes does turn to dust. I like being on my toes and having to make fresh decisions with each roll of the dice, or pick of the cards.
BreakScore has a mischievous side that appeals to me and without giving too much away, I find it pays to closely watch how my friends play their cards, as there's penalties to pay if they're caught not following instructions and if they're not caught, they get away scot free! Sometimes I must confess, I calculate/hope that others are distracted and try to get away with things myself. It can be pretty nerve-wracking holding your breathe waiting to see if they are alert or not.
There's heaps of unforeseen situations that can come up in a game and I still find it useful to consult the rules when they arise ... sometimes outcomes can be quite bizarre but these are games where winning or losing isn't as important as having fun.
Having said that, players who know the rules, dice odds (find them at breakscore.com) and aren't afraid to take risks ... sometimes way outside their comfort zones ... will do well. Unpredictable and never boring, I find it can be as much fun to watch others play as it's to have your own turn! NB: These games are great to play with families, friends and traditional board game enthusiasts but they won't appeal to diehard gamers, electronic devotees and fantasy role players, but hey I'm cool with that and with them!

I bought a game of Breakscore 2 years ago and haven't been disappointed. Our family plays regularly and we like it that anyone can win. Of the three games we tend to play Champ Play the most because we're competitive and like the points scoring system. Having said that I found Breakaway a good interlude and is also an excellent game for younger players to start out on. I highly recommend it!

I have been playing Breakscore for a year now and have no hesitation in recomending it. Age is no barrier, in fact my 13 year old has certainly given me a run for my money and achieved Gold status ahead of me. Breakscore is fun for adults and chldren alike, a great family game. In other games the player lagging behind (particularly if young)can become despondent, but with the unpredictability of Breakscore anything is possible and being in the lead at the end of the game is certainly no guarantee of a win.
Being able to contact the designer for rulings and to share experiences on-line is unlike other games, which goes towards creating the unique experience that is Breakscore.
