Fifth Edition Booster Box
Released in 1997, Fifth Edition was the core set that sought to balance the game. It removed many cards that were considered over-powered compared to there low mana cost, for example, Sword to Plowshares.
Just as Fourth Edition cut cards from Revised, only 235 cards were brought back from Fourth in Fifth Edition. The set contains 429 cards, not including basic lands. Some major changes occurred in cards, as they updated them with new artwork, new flavor text, and revisions to the rule text on cards for clarity.
Similar to Fourth Edition, Fifth Edition contains five cycles. Most notable are Ice Age's, Painlands; Fallen Empire's 'Sac Lands' and 'Storage Lands'. The Circle of Protection cards returned once again and remain a staple in many core sets.
