***** this card is sick, greg clearly doesnt understand how the stack works, he must not be very good at this game.

***** Great in eternal format tournies where everyone plays cards that cost 3 or less in every deck.

**** I agree w/ the first review. This card is only functional when playing a similar deck. I run this in my sideboard in case I face another blue control deck; otherwise, it just looks impressive.

***** ok.......this card is SICK ........really it is. However, just look around because i saw a list of tournaments on this awesome site ........for a 1.5 (legacy) match up there were 127 competitors and standstill-counterbalance-dreadnought decks took 1st and 3rd.....that is NOT coincidence and down right proof of this powerful beastie...... this card is REALLLLLLY great

***** You combo it with Sensei's Divining Top or other cards like Brainstorm.

*** I don't see why you would put this card in a main deck...I mean, alright so you might get lucky and counter your opponent's spell, but how likely is that? I also don't see how anyone could build a deck around Counterbalance...I don't think that there's any way to scry or rearrange your library after your opponent plays the spell but before you reveal the top card of your library...
