***** I am thinking a fun deck with Vampire Hexmage, Hex Parasite, Etched Monstrosity and Dark Depths. Dark Ritual, Lightning Greaves, Hypnotic Specter, Jitte Put in some Thought Seize and Hymns and your good to go. Ok only fun for me unless they can counter and wasteland me.

***** Hex parasite anyone?????? :D

-- By Anonymous from Maritlage on June 08, 2011

**** A good card

-- By Mark N from Marshfield, Wisconsin on January 25, 2011

**** @iloveblue You know you can't declare it bad because of something like unsummon right because I could just declare unsummmon useless with counterspell so what say you now?

-- By Anonymous from Island of Counterspell on December 31, 2010

***** Well... finally we have the Call of Cthulhu's magic card.

-- By dio dio from Chile on December 13, 2010

**** He will bring greatness to your people by finding your enemies where they live and painting their homes black with dishonor.

-- By Rising Son from Mt. Fuji on September 27, 2010

* Its a legendary creature you cant put more than one in play and oh ya UNSUMMON!

-- By iloveblue from the island of unsummon on September 02, 2010

***** Simply outstanding because if you get this, a hex mage and a couple swamps and you win.

-- By Anonymous from unknown on August 22, 2010

***** play a vampire hexmage with this guy in play. bam! turn 3 20/20 flying indestructible.

-- By mike from boston, ma on February 21, 2010

***** an exellent card i run it with vampire hexmages, aether snaps, and demonic tutors, turn two merit lage

-- By Ric Banning from Ft. riley ks on February 18, 2010

***** This is one heck of a wicked land card, and I make sure I always have one in my deck or at least in my side deck just in-case I need it. Then there is this other card that I have, I cannot remember the name of it, but it helps remove counters from any cards and in turn, turns those counters into direct damage. So not only do I deal damage from remove the counters, but I remove the counters twice as fast, and then out comes the might 20/20 Legendary Flying creature which I would then put trample on, just in-case some does have a flying creature. Truly an awesome land card.

-- By Steve H from Cali on February 09, 2010

**** This is a really easy card to counter. All you need to do is get a card that exiles target creature and your good.

-- By vampire decks!!!!!! from nowhere on February 08, 2010

***** Lol... i just got back into magic... well i wasn't exactly into it before, i just bought a bunch of packs and planned on making a deck. Anyway, i was looking through my cards to put into this pre made deck that i bought, and i have 2 of these and now i want to make a deck centered around it XDD

-- By Jason from camarillo on January 25, 2010

***** 4 hexmage, 4 of these, 4 urborg tombs... any mono black deck, just seriously any black deck, can fit that, and have a lucky 3rd turn win just sitting around... And who wouldn't want to add some dark rituals to a black deck? And the hexmage itself is a solid card too... Hexmage should read "target nonland permanent", hehe...

-- By Barachai from Ravnica Sewer System on January 13, 2010

**** Or Lotus petal(or mox diamond/jet), dark ritual, sol ring(or mana crypt/mana vault), lightning greaves, vampire hexmage, dark depths. Pop, equip, swing, game.

-- By Barry from Edson AB, Canada on January 06, 2010

***** You guys aren't thinking right with this one. Turn 1: play a bayou and lotus petal. Tap the petal for 2 dark rits, tap the bayou for green. Play crop rotation to search and play dark depths. Use 2 black mana to play the hexmage. Sac it. Get your 20/20. Use another 2 black mana (from your 2 dark rits) to play rite of consumption. GAME! Turn 1!

-- By Ryan from Birmingham, AL USA on December 26, 2009

**** ok people dark depths, hexmage (sac, remove all counters from a permament, then you can use right of consumption.GAME OVER!) very very ulgy! ive seen one of these bad boys activated on turn 2 , a 20/20 on turn 2? OUCH! the only way i won was i had a forest in play and crop rotationed for my maze of ith, or my glacial chasm! if your not playing blue, you better have wingshards, fleshbag marauders, diabolical idict, or somthing that makes them sac a creature. corpse queen, (to steal it) stripmines or a freaking alot of fogs! (spike weaver also works great against it, play regerge, and keep that weaver out!) good card early, but stalls bad in the middle of the game and late. even a flying regenerator. but you have to be careful of rite of consumption. that is the game winner card!

-- By mike from pittsburgh PA on November 08, 2009

**** The Dark Depths/Vampire Hexmage combo is very constructed viable. A 20/20 indestructible flyer on turn 2 (although usually comes online turn 3 unless Urborg, Tomb of Yawgmoth or an accelerator is in play) is nearly on par with the Phyrexian Dreadnought/Stifle combo which sees a ton of play in Legacy. In fact, a deck built around the DD/VH combo just top 8'd the huge SCG 5k Legacy Tourney in Philadelphia. With the right cards around it, I think the deck can be a legitimate force in both Extended and Legacy. The only reason this card doesn't get 5 stars is because it can't do anything on it's own and the token it creates dies to Path to Exile/Swords to Plowshares.

-- By Michael B. from Manhattan, KS on October 15, 2009

*** Combo this with a vampire hexmage from zendikar to have a 20/20 indestructable flyer on turn 2. Maybe thrown in a fling or something after you swing with it for another 20 damage if it floats your boat. Very fun card (the only reason for the three stars), but not use able at all in anything but casual play.

-- By Scott from Amherst, MA USA on October 04, 2009

**** This is a great card. i just traded away and now i really regret doing that because i realized its potential. THIS IS THE HARDEST CARD TO FIND! Ive looked on at different mtg vendors and none of them have it in stock.

-- By kinglouie from denham springs, LA USA on September 27, 2009

**** Amazing card...amazing effect. The only two problems are: it can be slow if you do not build a deck around it; and, Gilder Bairn anyone?

-- By Ian Mertz from Princeton, NJ USA on July 22, 2009

***** amazing

-- By satan from hell on July 28, 2008

***** If your building around this card, Id go with Dark rituals, AEther Snap, Urborg Tomb of Yawgmoth if your running multi color and maybe clock spinning if u have the mana for it...imo

-- By zeroquick from Bay Area, CA on July 03, 2008

***** put a lightning greaves on that sucka and your opponent will concede. runs great with mirrari's wake....

-- By Mike from akron on January 19, 2008

***** All hail marit lage , we are not worthy.

-- By matt from fort worth tx usa on November 09, 2007

***** A 20/20 legendary S.O.B. Or at least it is to an opponent, to you if you can get it out, is a pet you love. Sure only one can be out at a time, but play marit lage, then get another Dark Depths out and take counters off until you have one left and wait until your opponent kills it. (yes it sadly can be killed. Returning tokens to the hand kills them, so cards like peel from reality are an opponent's best hope)

-- By Dan Jones from England on September 15, 2007

**** Haha, i have two of these, which is over kill but at least i get it out faster having two, or i can play two. This card i caution you can not be countered, but be careful when your opponent takes control of it, or when your opponent plays a land kill card like demolish or stone rain. Otherwise good card, just work to make sure it doesnt happen like that.

-- By Thor from Millvile, HI UK on February 27, 2007

***** This card is insanely good! If you have enough expendable mana, and enough time, POW! the strongest creature(and creature token) in the game is yours. The only possible way to win against someone with this is by using a really powerful creature with fear and flying, and even then...

-- By Manatee ninja from Terisaire, Dominaria , Dominia on January 01, 2007

***** My friend uses this constantly. If it's in his starting hand he usually has it down by turn less than 10 turns and a couple of assualt zeppelids! Simply awesome, though. And being a land, it can't be countered.

  -- By The-Fionnmeister from England on December 13, 2006

***** 20/20 Flying Indestructible and you can pay it's cost throughout many turns this is the best card since Avatar of Woe

-- By Forrest from Carlsbad, CAL USA on October 06, 2006

***** This is just begging to have a deck built around it. Counter killers arn't very comman, but the ones that there are will crack the ice faster than ice cracking at a fairly fast speed! USE AETHER SNAP!

-- By Anonymous from Minneapolis, MN USA on July 29, 2006

**** This probably won't see a lot of tournament play, but I think that this is the coolest card to come out in a long time. Put your Firebraids to good use and release Marit Lage! Then all it needs is trample and it's game over.

  -- By Kristen P. from Madison,WI on July 25, 2006

***** This card is great just imagine trampling over your friends with a 20/20 its awsome.
