While being a generic rare, meaning it isn't completely broken like cards like Umezawa's Jitte, it provides a much needed boost into future creature decks. In a W/U/B Knight Deck running Wrath of God, Haakon has a lot of potential. With his knightly brethren he provides creature recursion after devastating effects like Wrath of God, and Wildfire. I have personally made such a deck and tested it versus Solar Flare (2006 U.S. Nationals posted 4 of these decks in the Top 8, and taking 1st) and posted a 60% win percentage pre-board and 70% post-board. I must note however that my board had a lot of Solar Flare hate cards. I am looking to test versus Vore and Heartbeat-Combo even though I am preparing my deck for a post-Kamigawa environment. Overall, Haakon is not an automatic include rare into every deck, I can see him seeing a decent amount of play as Necro-type of decks try to re-emerge with the release of Coldsnap. He does two major things: 1) Comes back from the dead; and 2) Brings fellow knights back from the dead (either from being countered or killed). -- By Jason from Dover, DE on August 21, 2006 |

used with cards like nameless inversion, smallpox and oona's prowler(to easily get haakon and other knights into the grave) haakon can be pretty awesome. -- By erik from ft. collins, co. on January 20, 2008 |
