Japanese schoolgirl Kagome is pulled into a well by a centipede monster and through a 500-year old time tunnel to Japan's civil-war era. She escapes from the well with Inu Yasha, a half-dog demon imprisoned in the well 50 years earlier by the priestess Kikyo. Believed to be the reincarnation of Kikyo, she must reluctantly team up with her predecessor's enemy to hunt down the many shards of the "Jewel of Four Souls".

Sango is a professional Yokai Slayer who joins Inu Yasha's group and the only memeber to have no supernatural powers. Sango wields the Hiraikotsu, a hugh boomerang made from Yokai bones. As the series moves along you see that she actually seeks revenge against Naraku for the death of her family and entire village. She falls for Miroku, her feelings were brought to open when she starting hitting Miroku when he flirted with other single women.
