The story is of Claus Valca and Lavie Head, a young courier pilot and his navigator. They are a part of the floating world of Prester. In Prester a long and bloody war between the two countries of Anatole and Dysis has been raging while under the supervision of the mysterious Guild. While piloting their small wingless ship called a vanship, find themselves involved in a plot with a little girl that is meant as "cargo" named Alvis Hamilton.
