The best way to use Tokkens is to leave them sealed in the package until your D&D sessions and once you kill an epic baddy or find a chest, bust a pack and say "Ok, here's your loot." As for the downsides, the tin cards are a bit bulky, awkward, and difficult to stack. I think I read somewhere that the manufacturers found it cheaper to print on tin sheets than on actual cardstock. Another problem I found is that they don't offer as much information about the items as I would have liked. For instance, all the potion and magic oil tokkens say the same thing on the back and refer you to a website for more information. You then have to type in a lengthy numerical code, after which you are given more info on potions and oils, and nothing about the particular item printed on the tokken. Ugh. They're still very fun to play with and the artwork is fantastic.
