Planeswalker: Chandra Nalaar
Ever since Magic the Gathering was first released in 1993, the game was meant to represent two clashing wizards doing battle. It wasn't until the release of Lorwyn in late 2007, that this concept became tangible, as the card type, Planeswalker. Planeswalkers are the embodiment of the player, powerful mages that spend their lifetimes traveling the multiverse and learning new spells.
Planeswalkers in Play:
Planeswalkers are played at sorcery speed and come into play with a number of loyalty counters on them, found at the bottom right of the card where a creatures power/toughness is located. Since they are not creatures, they cannot attack or block, instead planeswalkers have abilities that you can activate once per turn. Each ability can either generate or cost loyalty counters. A planeswalker can be attacked and it takes damage by losing loyalty counters, when the planeswalker reaches zero loyalty counters the card is placed in the graveyard as a state-based effect.
Why you should use this card:
She is the epitome of what red can do. She costs a converted five, three colorless and two red and comes into play with six loyalty counters on her, making her hard to get rid if she resolves. For her first ability, you can ping a player one damage to gain one loyalty counter. When you pay X amount of counters you burn your opponent's creature, a powerful ability that puts you in control of the board position. Her final ability lets you nuke your opponent's life and each creature they control for ten damage for eight counters. Bring Chandra Nalaar and your favorite burn spells and you've got yourself a brutal RedDeckWins.
