Planeswalker: Chandra Nalaar
Ever since Magic the Gathering was first released in 1993, the game was meant to represent two clashing wizards doing battle. It wasn't until the release of Lorwyn in late 2007, that this concept became tangible, as the card type, Planeswalker. Planeswalkers are the embodiment of the player, powerful mages that spend their lifetimes traveling the multiverse and learning new spells.

Planeswalkers in Play:
Planeswalkers are played at sorcery speed and come into play with a number of loyalty counters on them, found at the bottom right of the card where a creatures power/toughness is located. Since they are not creatures, they cannot attack or block, instead planeswalkers have abilities that you can activate once per turn. Each ability can either generate or cost loyalty counters. A planeswalker can be attacked and it takes damage by losing loyalty counters, when the planeswalker reaches zero loyalty counters the card is placed in the graveyard as a state-based effect.

Why you should use this card:
She is the epitome of what red can do. She costs a converted five, three colorless and two red and comes into play with six loyalty counters on her, making her hard to get rid if she resolves. For her first ability, you can ping a player one damage to gain one loyalty counter. When you pay X amount of counters you burn your opponent's creature, a powerful ability that puts you in control of the board position. Her final ability lets you nuke your opponent's life and each creature they control for ten damage for eight counters. Bring Chandra Nalaar and your favorite burn spells and you've got yourself a brutal RedDeckWins.

*** Use Sorin's second ability, then Chandra's big one. You win.

***** I personally run both Chandra Nalaar and Chandra Ablaze in my mono red agro/burn deck, along with Koth of the Hammer as well. Running all three allows for a huge range of options and greatly increases the chances of being able to win the game one way or another.

***** Me and the old girl have had a good partnership since Lorwyn. Winning FNMs and getting in the top 32 of a PTQ so I would in no way say she is bad. She can burn down a big creature, ping the opponent, and win you the game if she goes off which unless you play another burn deck isn't as hard as it sounds if you protect her with burn spells. Think about it, your opponent attacks and you lightning bolt the creature. Repeat this for three turns and she can get enough counters to do her thing. This wont always work of course so don't jump me if it doesn't work for you, but let me give a little suggestion. Sideboard Pyroclasm so when you face a white weenie you can kill of everything for two mana then use her.

**** Chandra Nalaar is a brilliant planeswalker for most red decks - she can kill creatures with toughness 5 or less, ping players for 1 each turn, and eventually cast a gigantic Flame Wave in the face of an opponent. Still though, Chandra Nalaar isn't very specialized (as opposed to Chandra Ablaze). All in all, Chandra Nalaar is good in regular decks featuring red, but if you're running a mono red burn deck, Chandra Ablaze seems way better in most cases.

***** Chandra Nalaar is better than Chandra Ablaze in all ways... Chandra Nalaar is the best planeswalker in red... it can deals damage to opponent, deals damage to a creature, or give destructive damage to all opposing face!

***** 1 of the best Chandra Planeswalker

-- By bob bob from new york, ny usa on June 23, 2010

    ***** Great card!

      -- By Anonymous from ??? on June 01, 2010

***** First add up her loyality until reach 8, next turn - if you have Sorin Markov, it will end the game...

-- By Jace Beleren from bandung on May 13, 2010

**** I am guessing when you say a holographic Chandra, you are actually talking about a foil one. In that case, the price is right here on this page. Don't bother looking anywhere else, because TrollandToad probably has the lowest price you will find, anyway.

***** i have a holographic chandra all price guides ive looked at havent had a price for a holographic chandra does anybody have any idea how much a holo chandra would be?

-- By Keith from lima, OH USA on September 29, 2009

**** My absolute favorite card to pair Chandra with is Repercussion. If you are playing with Chandra and you don't know about Repercussion, you should look into it now! To sum up, Chandra + repercussion= very dead opponent

-- By Jim from Madison, WI on July 13, 2009

***** Not the best Planeswalker, but for sure my favourite. She can control the table with her -x ability and with Doubling Season it Boom!:):)

-- By Le Pic from Qc, Canada on June 26, 2009

***** It's awesome, on turn 8, it's like wrath of god and 10 damage in one

-- By aaron from Livingston,NJ USA on April 05, 2009

***** 5 mana for six damage? if that wasnt enough you can ping to recharge and if so inclined, you can build up and wreck their day. this is the funnest planeswalker short of elspeth, and shes just sick

-- By zimmer from interlachen, FL on December 14, 2008

***** I play her in a green red deck with doubling seasons, and rings of brighthearth, green gives you the acceleration to get her out, and man, with a doubling season out, doing her third ability same turn you drop her, is just, killer. I love her.

-- By Eric from Alberta, Canada on May 10, 2008

**** Pretty good -8 counter almost always ends the game for your opponent.

-- By Anonymous from Atlanta, Georgia on January 31, 2008

***** It is not incredibly rare, I have 2 in ten booster packs.

-- By Anonymous from on January 26, 2008

**** Of the five, I am least enamored of Chandra, but I do love them all. Chandra is my least favorite for a simple reason: converted mana cost. Easy to counter. But once she's out, hard to beat. I only rate her as I as I do because you can defuse her in two easy turns, and if you have Rings of Brighthearth on the table and 2 mana, you can take an opponent from 20 to zero on your sixth turn.

-- By Jordan from Brooklyn, NY USA on December 06, 2007

***** Incredibly Rare. In 6 booster boxes, my friend and I only got one of her. Covet this card, it may be one of the only ones you ever see.

-- By Joseph Scarpace from The Internets on October 22, 2007

***** Yes. What could be more fun than setting things on fire? Summoning your friend who also loves to burn things! My favorite of the five. She's especially funny when fighting the other planeswalkers, as Jace is the only one that can gain any loyalty if you feel like redirecting all her damage that way. And then she lets off a massive Flame Wave and things get even funnier. Get one today!
