**** This little blade offers some pretty powerful combos to a savvy player. The +2/+2 is a nice addition to any creature, but the ability to bring out any creature in your hand is fantastic, especially in Lorwyn, where huge Elemental Incarnations and other high-cost or multi-colored creatures are abundant. This is also a perfect ccard for casual players. They like anything HUGE, EXPENSIVE, and POWERFUL and Deathrender makes a creature larger, stronger, and cheaper.

*** I've never actually played this card, but I'm tempted to build a pseudo-white weenie deck with four of these and four darksteel colossus(es?) just for kicks. Attack with a 1/1 kithkin equipped with deathrender, then when he dies out comes the colossus! Of course it would just be a "for fun" deck, not a tournament deck or anything....

*** As an equipment card, Deathrender cannot compete with other more efficient beat enhancers like Loxodon Warhammer, Vulshok Morningstar, or Bonesplitter. As a combo piece, it shines, maybe not brightly enough to be tier one worthy, but noticeable none the less. Possibly one of the most interesting applications of this card is in combo with Enduring Renewa, allowing you create virtually unkillable men, especially good with critters that require a manaless sacrifice as part of an ability cost. For example, if your opponent allows you to get the pieces into place, Deathrender along with Enduring Renewal and Mogg Fanatic create an infinite loop of damage that is uncounterable but still breakable with the right timing.

**** This card is Combo Beats and type 2. I discovered this by accident 2 things 1. deathrender in play attached to a muddbutton torchrunner (when it dies, point 3 damage) 3 mud's in hand and 3 warren pilferer's (comes into play grab a creature out your graveyard) and a no mana cost sac engine, sac, sac, sac, pilferer grab the mudbut, sac, pilfer.... yada anyway its 21 damage 2. and the second deathrender attached to a warren pilferers with a second in the hand and a boggart shenanigans in play (enchant, when a goblin i control dies, 1 damage at a player) and a sac engine sac the pilferer, pilferer hits the grave, deathrender goes off, drop 2nd pilferer attached to render grab first, rince lather and repeat, unlimited damage potential, and with goblin sledder as the sac engine, uber large creatures

**** No one has mentioned what seems to be the most obvious combo from this set, that is the Deathrender with Mr. Brion Stoutarm. Since Brion's a giant, you throw him in a giant deck, with plenty of huge creatures that cost a ton to get out, but it doesn't matter, brion throws a Borderland Behemoth for at least ten with deathrender and brings out something else huge that he can throw the next turn like a hamletback. Attack first and kill their weenie blocker, then toss. It's beautiful

**** This card is going in my artifact sacrifice/grind deck because: 1) Suddenly Sphinx Heralds are no longer necessary to bring out the Sphinx Sovereign so now I can remove the black and white creatures whose only purpose was a cheapie for sacrifice. 2) I don't have to pay any mana cost to bring out Sharuum the Hegemon (potentially bringing a destroyed Sovereign back into play) 3) Deathrender + 2 Sanctum Gargoyles (one in hand, one on the board) + Grinding Station = Infinite grind. Add my deathgreeters and disciples of the vault and I'm gaining an infinite amount of life while dealing an infinite amount of damage. Don't know if those three cards are tourney legal but playing extended around the kitchen table is going to be a lot of fun (for me).

***** This is awesome for casual play, I'm totally going to build a deck around it and Progenitus. Imagine equipping a llanowar elf, attacking, and watching your opponent chuckle as he blocks and the elf dies. Then BOOM! Into play pops Progenitus. although he won't get equipped, a 10/10 protection from everything should suffice.

***** Have Deathrender attached to Kokusho The Evening Star, devour it with Predator Dragon (or it and some goblins with Voracious to deal even more damage), put Bladewing the Risen into play with Deathrender's ability which returns Kokusho from the grave and bam: deal 5 gain 5 and get a 6/6, 5/5 and 6/6 haste dragon into play all for 4 mana if you also have out a Dragonspeaker Shaman (or the cost of the devourer if not).
