Planeswalker: Jace Beleren Lorwyn Single
Ever since Magic the Gathering was first released in 1993, the game was meant to represent two clashing wizards doing battle. It wasn't until the release of Lorwyn in late 2007, that this concept became tangible, as the card type, Planeswalker. Planeswalkers are the embodiment of the player, powerful mages that spend their lifetimes traveling the multiverse and learning new spells.

Planeswalkers in Play:
Planeswalkers are played at sorcery speed and come into play with a number of loyalty counters on them, found at the bottom right of the card where a creatures power/toughness is located. Since they are not creatures, they cannot attack or block, instead planeswalkers have abilities that you can activate once per turn. Each ability can either generate or cost loyalty counters. A Planeswalker can be attacked and it takes damage by losing loyalty counters, when the planeswalker reaches zero loyalty counters the card is placed in the graveyard as a state-based effect.

Why you should use this card:
Jace Beleren is one of the cheaper planeswalkers, costing only one colorless and two blue. His first ability lets you draw a card for two loyalty counters. Your opponent draws a card as well... which is hard to get excited about. His third ability is where it get fun, milling your opponent’s deck down. You should be able do this in about four turns, less if you take advantage of Scars of Mirrodin's new mechanic, Proliferate. Oh... Let's not forget that you can't have two planeswalkers with the same subtype in play, so Jace Beleren can handle his big brother, Jace, the Mind Sculptor.

**** His +2: always screws me over, so I simply use him as a simple card engine with the -1:, since out of all the Planeswalkers' ultimate abilities I think the 20mill is weakest--then again I'm not a big mill player either.

-- By Jay from Minneapolis, MN USA on January 13, 2011

***** If you weren't aware.... Mind Sculptor costs 4 CMC. Jace Beleren is 3 CMC. You drop your Jace 3rd turn, and then the decide if they want to play theirs, Jace Beleren is a Sculptor "killer". Helpful for card draw, and with Sun Titan, it's pretty solid. If they wanna eliminate both of the Jace's on the field, they can go for it.

-- By Anonymous from Belerenville, USA on December 22, 2010

***** This And Sun Titan= LOL!

-- By Anonymous from PR on October 09, 2010

**** Just because they printed a better jace doesn't make Jace Beleren a bad card by any means.

-- By Anonymous from MN on August 04, 2010

    * After they printed Jace the Mind Sculptor or Jace 2.0 this verison became completely useless... Even though they reprinted it in M11 still pretty useless.

-- By Jake from Houston, TX USA on July 22, 2010

**** Phew... great in multiplayer??? I play "two headed dragon" with my friends, and when I choose to improve his loyality (+2 : each player draws a card) My friends are happy... especially both of my opponents! Jace the Mind Sculptor's first ability is better...

-- By Anonymous from Jakarta on June 26, 2010

***** This Jace may not look much since his brother (the Mind Sculptor) appears, but in some deck this card still give you increndible movements! I prefer to draw and draw at many times, and this Jace give me to dig my deck until my card revealed! I agree that if you combine with Top then he will be very useful by paying 1 colorless mana each turn. And If the Jace is stunned by Needle, then the Top still give you another chance... not depending on one Jace alone...

-- By Berny Heizhar from Cleveland on June 19, 2010

***** "lebron james" is a foolish-poor man I think. Five stars no doubt!

-- By Lekbong James from jakarta on June 01, 2010

***** Great card! Even Jace the Mind Sculptor is better, but the +2 (first ability) I prefer this Jace.....

-- By Anonymous from USA on June 01, 2010

***** This Jace is rather weak since Jace the Mind Sculptor appears, but I always like him. Combine with Sensei's of Divining Top, he can give you "ponder" each turn. Fetch the land using any Fetch Land to give you another options. Nice planeswalker tough...

-- By Jace Beleren from bandung on May 13, 2010

**** it's nice, i mean if you play a blue-black with cards like mind funeral, tome scour, especially megrim, and of course, traumatize. Why i say megrim and jace are a good combo is that first you bring out megrim, then bring out jace, then mop up your opponents tears. the reason why i gave this review only 4 instead of 5 stars is that the second version of jace from worldwake is so much better.

**** The Jace vs. Chandra alternate art foil version is boss

-- By Orestes Peristeris from Johannesburg, SA on December 16, 2009

***** so it comes in with 3 loyalty points. when destroyred does it go into your graveyard? im a little confused on how to use these cards...can someone explain in in simple terms???

-- By Bryan from seattle, wa on December 01, 2009

***** ...play this along wd traumatize and haunting echoes, demonic tutor , howling mine... tsk tsk tsk wd a liitle bit help of meddling mage.... what a freakin t1-2 mix....

-- By kith from philippines on August 06, 2009

***** nah, traumatize is too expensive. if you can fit this card into your manabase, go ahead and do it. He's card advantage! The turn you play him, you can have each player draw a card. Then for four or five turns after that, you're set to not miss a land drop and bury your opponent under a ton of card advantage (if you're drawing a counterspell and a land/other counterspell each turn, chances are that your opponent won't be able to keep up. if that spell is a cryptic command, well...you've just about won). His last ability is also quite useful. I think Jace might be good in the Sanity Grinding/Twincast (and plumeveil, cryptic command, etc.) deck. He can mill for twenty 24, actually...) and he has two blue in his cost. Awesome!

-- By Greg from Atlanta on May 11, 2009

***** Why use traumatize? use rings of brighthearth and copy his -10 ACTIVATED ABILITY for 2 mana, twice. then you win.

-- By nick from WA on January 17, 2009

***** great card.. use with traumitize.. have memory erosion out there. and twincast the traumatize.. lol.. this is the best planeswalker.

-- By Anonymous from Olivet, MI on January 06, 2009

**** its really really good my personal favorate planeswalker even including the eventide ones...still though elspeth and garruk are the 2 best ability ones in my book but in the actual book....i bet jace "can" walk all over them..just like he will chandra. lol

***** Jace is one of the best planeswalkers out right now. Low cost to summon him, fast loyalty, and great effects to work with.

-- By Z0mbiE from San Antonio, Tx USA on September 12, 2008

    * jace is awsome like jester says you will win with him if you can pull of a 7 card combo AMAZING>>>>

-- By lebron james from cleveland, oh on July 03, 2008

***** Great card use it with truamatize and you've won the game.

      -- By H3llS ANG3l from wilbraham MA on July 02, 2008

*** whoa, slow down there jester! anyway jace is good card drawing and the planeswalker most likely to survive in multiplayer, and all the milling decks love him

-- By Kyle from on June 14, 2008

***** first play jace and get 1o counters on him. while doing that tramatize yourself and get almost all your library into the graveyard, then play leveler for 5 (its a 10/10) and that removes your library from the game then play reminisce to get almost all your library back. then play rule of law, and imprint a counterspell on an isachron scepter next turn... you win

-- By jester from awesome town on May 09, 2008

***** Jace is an awesome card if you get as many loalty counters on him as you freaking please he will help you dominate your oppenant

-- By Anonymous from Carbondale, Il USA on March 03, 2008

**** I think this could be mean with Traumatize. You could empty your opponents library pretty quick.

-- By James from Guston, KY on October 22, 2007

***** Oh yeah! I completely agree with you man!

-- By Anonymous from miren, slovenia on October 18, 2007

***** Cheap cost, fast loyalty build up, drawing cards for no mana, late game mill-combo and the best artwork of all the plainswalkers. I love this card!
