This unit gives the Soviets some indirect fire. Enhanced Range 8 allows it to hit a good portion of the map, and the shrapnel ability counters it's inaccuracy when targeting infantry. The primary weaknesses are poor anti-armor attack values, and the need for a spotter to use indirect fire. Due to both the expense and low survivability of spotters, my group has houseruled that indirect fire targets enemies within four hexes of a friendly commander. I highly recommend this, as it's made indirect fire units much more viable without adding any unrealistic power.
