Wars of the Roses is an epic two-player game about the long and bloody dynastic struggle between the houses of Lancaster and York for the throne of England. The game depicts both the vicious military campaigns and the rich political struggles that surrounded the rule of the mad-king Henry VI, the Yorkist usurper Edward IV, Richard III, and the first Tudor king, Henry VII.

Also strutting across the game's stage are Richard of York, patriarch of the house of Plantagenet, Richard Neville, the notorious "Kingmaker", Margaret of Anjou, the iron-queen of Lancaster, and Edward the Prince of Wales.

Wars of the Roses expands on the award-winning Hammer of the Scots game system by greatly enriching the card deck. "Holding your cards close to your vest" has never meant more. Players can launch or foil conspiracies, bring Scotland into the wars, hire mercenaries, flee into exile, employ spies, bribe neutral nobles, call up the standing army at Calais, mobilize the powerful Northern or Welsh Marches, or even marshal the fickle winds of fate to threaten the best laid plans of the enemy.

**** I saw the amazing pictorial review of this game over at BGG and I was sold! Components are great, if not better than your normal block war game (map is made of cardstock, not paper) - it has solid wooden blocks and wonderful map. Game-play is faster than Hammer of the Scots, and it's more accessible. Check out the BGG review for all the details. I've played RIII multiple times now and am very pleased. A very good introductory block war game, strong theme, built on a quality and proven game system.
