It is indeed quite easy to pick up and play with minimal preparation. It seems like a good way to get into 4th ed. early. The premade character sheets have level progression from first to third laid out for you- all you have to do is pick a name and a gender.
It's a little annoying to have so little choice, but then, what can you expect? This has been marked down to a four for multiple references to books not yet made (for example, one of the town's markets is listed as having a 50% chance of having any adventuring gear listed in the PHB at list cost, without any further info). Still and all, as a DM I have yet to find anything you can't do by careful reading of the quickstart pamphlet and a little creative work with your 3.5 books. My players love it, and really, despite the couple of flaws, so do I.
