In the early morning hours of 6 June 1944, American paratroopers landed in Normandy, heralding the Allied return to Europe and the eventual destruction of the Nazi regime. Fierce battles broke out as they fought to secure bridges and roads, and eliminate German resistance.
Airborne is a game based on these intense firefights, with 20 separate scenarios, or game situations, based on the actual battles waged in Normandy during and after the American landings. The game is the gateway to the Panzer game series, portraying the leaders, infantry and tank platoons and artillery batteries deployed during the campaign. It’s a total revision of the game first released in 2001.
Airborne has 165 playing pieces representing the troops and weapons of the U.S. Army and the German Wehrmacht of 1944. There’s one map, representing the typical terrain found in the hedgerows and marshes of Normandy. The scenarios are chosen for quick play and intense fun, to introduce you to the more than 500 published scenarios of the series.
