Designed by the maker of Vinci, Small World shows what happens when fourteen races are crowded on to a small world. Someone got to go! Players try to expand their empire, which is a combination of races and special powers, at the expense of the other players. But players can switch to new emerging empires and let the old ones go fallow.

***** I learned this game one night at a local shop's board game night. Within a month I had purchased the game, 3 small expansions (be not afraid, grand dames and cursed) as well as the standalone expansion (underworld). This game is a great party game for up to 5 people. Gameplay difficulty - the basics of this game are easy to understand, a slight nuance on classic "region conquer" games. If playing with multiple expansions, I would recommend typing up and printing out a "primer" on what each creature race and bonus do, so players are not fumbling through 3-5 rules sheets to find out what each race does. Advanced play - The biggest part of Small World that gives it replay value is the customizability of the races and bonuses. There is always an uneven number of each, so you rarely play the same combination twice. Each game is a new challenge to maximize the potential of the proferred races to gain as many coins as you can. Combining races and bonuses from the expansions, as well as the places and relics from Underworld can REALLY make the game interesting. Duration - A player learning the game can take upwards of an hour, experienced players could last anywhere from 30-45 minutes, depending on how many are playing. All in all, a good game for when you don't have a huge amount of time, but still want an in-depth experience.
