***** This is not only THE ultimate magic card - it is a status symbol nowadays, too! Argueably there are only two or three cards who can match this prime artifact, since it speeds up your deck considerably. That one can only play it in one format (and there even restricted) is just a sign of its strength and does certainly not diminish its value. To have or not to have - Blue Mauritius, ähm, Black Lotus!

***** An absolutely outstanding way to generate fast colored mana. Its no wonder this card sells for as much as it does...... its got tremendous potential.
-- By Matthew Davis from Bronson, MI on April 15, 2001
***** This is the grand daddy of them all. The ability to cast first turn baddies makes it the best card of all time.
-- By Dave Stevens from Auburn NY on October 29, 2001
***** If you think this card is over-rated then you obviously aint used one to first turn channel fireball someone with it. Which I did in two games in a row in a tourny. Best card early game, and always a surprise factor late game when they counter you thinking your all tapped out and you drop mox/lotus/land serra, and being alpha. this is the grand daddy.
-- By BOWEN from Australia on March 14, 2002
***** They're expensive because they're hard to find, not because they're so good. To have a Black Lotus is like having the Holy Grail of Magic Cards. End of Story.
-- By Alex Fierro from Monroe, NY on March 14, 2002
***** this is the best card in the game every deck needs one!!!!Its worth the money because you can always turn around and sell it.
-- By Anonymous from Kansas city, ks usa on March 21, 2002
***** Amazing card when backed with the other power cards. First turn mox drops + a wheel of fortune/time twister are always a good thing.
-- By profoundd from canada on March 21, 2002
* If you are an extremly seriose player i would buy one of these. It isa very good card but many deck using it can play without it and still be good.
-- By Braids Winsregionals from NJ USA on April 07, 2002
*** Works great in theory, but it's restricted status makes it too unpractical.
-- By Matt from Minnesota on April 24, 2002
***** It'll beat any deck! Sure the others will be good, but without Black Lotus, they'll get run over 5th turn. Unfortunately it's restricted in T1 and banned in T1.x, Extended, and T2. Oh well! Who pays attention to DCI anyway???
-- By Braids LOST LOST LOST LOST regionals from REALITY!!! on May 06, 2002
**** .................................................................classic.............................................................................................the best....................... ...............couldnt be better.................

***** What can I say this card is priceless. So many first turn combo's so little time to do them.
-- By tom cadden from Glasgow, Scotland on June 01, 2002
***** OK i think it isnt the best card in Magic (ancestrall Recall) but it's an Status symbol today. Many new player havent seen an original Lotus in their life. It's only fun when u play a beta lotus that is the greatest :)
-- By M.J. from Germany Heidelberg on June 23, 2002
***** Black Lotus, who can forget the classic text: Add three mana of any single color of your choice to your mana pool, then is discarded. Tapping this artifact can be played an an interrupt. Clearly the hardest to find care in Magic: the Gathering ever. 5 stars. Two thumbs up.
-- By Anonymous from USA on August 03, 2002
***** This card is incredible, even better than
-- By critic 101 from Hong Kong on August 07, 2002
***** To give it less than 5 stars is an incredibly poor reflection on the rater, as this is by far THE BEST CARD IN THE GAME and without a doubt belongs in any deck.
-- By Critic 101 from Hong Kong on August 08, 2002
***** The ultimate Magic Card. Effective and the symbol of an experienced magic player.
-- By Jacob from Connecitcut, USA on August 08, 2002
***** There comes a point in life when you start to have good cards where you may want to enter into competitve Type 1 play. Let me tell you, your deck is not complete until you have this card. Forget how cool it is to lay down turn one, and realize that you can demonic tutor for it to get that one more colored mana you need, or you can make Yawgmoth's Will broken. If you disagree, then you don't have one. Sure it's pricy, but I wouldn't have won day one and T8ed on day two and three at Origins '02 without it.
-- By Paul Mastriano from Athens, OH on October 04, 2002
***** Black Lotus is one of the most versatile and usable cards in Magic Type 1. It can fit into any deck because of it's ability to generate any kind of colored mana. And the value is definetely NOT based on the cards ability. This card is very rare and are very seldom seen on the common market, and is even hard to find on any market for that matter. 75% of the value is the collectable value (Black Bordered, old print etc). The rest is the playvalue. Some of you should really learn more about this game and it's cards, before making comments you have no facts to refer to. Tharanduil
-- By Tharanduil from Stockholm, Sweden on December 05, 2002
***** Imagine you are playing a mono-black Necro deck at a important tourney. In your first draw you pull a Black Lotus, Dark Ritual, Necropotence, 2 Swamp, a Black Night, and a card such as Blood Pet the cost only 1 black to play. You throw out a swamp, tap to play a Dark Ritual, throw on the board a Black Lotus, play the Necro, the Black Night and then the Bloodpet. That is one of the best 1st turn combos I can think of, and I played it. Black Lotus, definitly this card must go down into the Magic Hall Of Fame.
-- By The Planeswalker from Dominaria on December 22, 2002
** This is the most overrated of all magic cards. Yes, it's a good card for speeding up your deck. But it's really only good if you get it 1st or 2nd turn. The fact of how expensive this card is makes me laugh. Definitely not the best card in the game.
-- By Rick from Pittsburgh on January 30, 2003
**** I think that this cards best use in play these days is as a status symbol. A lotus safely preserved on the box that you have your deck in is where this card should be. It is a classic and should be looked upon as THE card to have. Not because it's the best card out there, but because it is THE card in MTG. A shame they have been restricted like they have but that only adds to the status of having one right? There will always be people who are idiots and think that they are all that, just cause they spent the cash and purchased one. They will only annoy other players and be remembered as the try hard. But I don't care what anyone says. If you are a great magic player, and you have a Lotus on display when you sit at the table, it will put you in that class of players that is that little bit above those around you.
-- By Mic from Australia on February 26, 2003
***** There is no better card in the game. If you have any sense at all with the magic game, you know that a lotus is the best card to draw.
-- By Anonymous from Eden Prairie on April 16, 2003
***** Any one that says this card isn't the best in the world, can come to my house and have their butts kicked by my deck with one in it! The price is nothing, even though its restricted/banned in most tournament situations.
-- By Anonymous from Eden Prairie, MN on April 16, 2003
***** The best card in the game!

-- By ME from My home on April 25, 2003
***** The best card in the game. Bit pricey though.
-- By Anonymous from Minneapolis USA on August 28, 2003
***** What are the 2 things that have always made T1 so powerful? Card Drawing and Mana acceleration. This card, in a sense, gives you a 3-turn head start on your opponent. AND it fits in nearly 99% of all T1 decks. It is expensive, definately not worth the money, (You'll never win enough tournaments, just because of it, to pay yourself back -and all the big tournies are T2 now) but it's just so fun to whip one out and see the jaws drop.
-- By Grayson from Louisville, KY on September 01, 2003
***** 3 Words, Lotus, Channel Fireball.. Kill your opponent on first turn.. The ONLY card that allows you to do it.. In my mind, this is the BEST and ONLY card that could kill someone in the first draw.. Ancestral can't do it.. Sorry..
-- By Edgey Boy from TO on September 03, 2003
***** This card is well worth the price, you will probably be the only person in your city to own one!
-- By Anonymous from worcester, MA USA on October 19, 2003
***** hahahaha, I cant believe I'm actually making a review on this card. This card does not have a five rating it should have a 500,000,000 rating. Best card ever, no doubt about it!
-- By Anonymous from california on November 14, 2003
*** This is no doubt one of the best cards in magic but there is flaws to it.
-- By Anonymous from Las Vegas, Nevada USA on December 17, 2003
* This is the stupidest card I have ever seen in my 9 years of playing Magic. I mean really, it costs 0 and u can use 3 mana on your first turn, that gets out a concordant crossroad, which stinks extremely bad, and 2 llanowar, which you use to get a really bad card, priest of titania who uses it for a priest and a llanowar, which gets out kamhal fist of krosa, and next turn you win the game. I mean really this combination is horrible.
-- By Zack Dumlao from Atlana Georgia on December 21, 2003
***** Can't describe all the combinations this card has... i could put out an entire deck of creatures using this card and all of those creatures would have at least 100/100 using a recycle, coat of arms, concordant crossroads and a bunch of cheap elves like llanowars, fyndhorns and priest of titanias.
-- By Anonymous from maine on December 23, 2003
**** Those of you who rate this card at one have never seen its potential in red you have the possibilty of doing 12 damage first turn. Yes its a possibility not certain but it beats the rest of the junk you guys would rather have.
-- By Matt from Maineville, OH on January 01, 2004
*** Its not a very good card in play, however if you got this one in your first hand it will give you a great advantage. if You can regenerate this card even better!! but its especcially valiuble for collectors.
-- By goku from belgium on January 18, 2004
***** For vintage format, you will use this card if you have it. As far as price goes, Tharanduil's comment hit it right on the nose, this is extremely rare and sought after, that's why it's expensive. To downrate it because you can't afford one is lame, if you did have one, your opinion would be different. Maybey not the absolute best, but still, definately five stars.
-- By Brannon Diquattro from on February 17, 2004
***** THE HOLY GRAIL ITSELF!!! 'NUFF SAID
  -- By CLAUDEKORN from LAFONTAINE,QC,CANADA on February 17, 2004
***** Black lotus is possibly the most powerful card in magic.
  -- By from on February 28, 2004
***** Great card. Though not necesary in every type 1 deck like some players claim, it is a magic icon. However, i have debated the point and found that ancestral recall is better becuase it can be used for its full potential at any point in the game.
-- By Gh from Boston, Ma on February 29, 2004
***** It is a great card. It is just a shame that it costs so much. I have a friend who owns one, he had it in an opening hand along with a Drinker of Sorrow. That's a first turn 5/3 creature. Only the Black Lotus can do that.
-- By Mike from Hays, KS on March 09, 2004
***** i love this card ive been collecting this card for so long i have 15 black lotus's and two full puzzles. i lve them my deck have four in it and it runs the deck i play this deck everywhere because the lotus's are in bad condition. anyone got lotus
-- By kaipo naks from hawaii on March 09, 2004
***** Definetly the most broken card in magic. I don´t know where you can find a NM Black Lotus from Alpha this days... It's very expensive... but worth it.
-- By Jose Hinostroza from Lima, Peru on March 15, 2004
***** This is a sick card! A must have if you like collecting good magic cards. Definately elite!
  -- By from on March 21, 2004
**** I agree that this is a good card, but if you think this card is the best than you're a sheep... there are much better cards out there, like for instance the Platinum Angel, Darksteel Forge, etc.
-- By from New Mexico on March 23, 2004
***** This is deffinetly one of the best cards in magic any type 1 player of course would like to have one im still trying to get one before the price goes up more this card can make any deck better for the most part
-- By Anonymous from USA on April 02, 2004
***** I dont know if i like this card. please write a review telling me if this is turnament legal. If it is i am going to buy one if not than this sucks please write me a review.
-- By from detroit, MI USA on April 24, 2004
***** I drool over this. Even though i have only ever seen 3 in my whole life, this is by far the crown jewel of any magic collecetion. sure blue hurricans, summer magic seredib efreets, sure there cool but i wouldn't trade my car for them, but a lotus yes. This is one of the most broken cards ever printed. Most people saying that they have 4 lotuses,2 singed... yeah..... right.... sure.....i bet there are only a very few people in the world who have more than 1 of these, and there dealers like this site. people are saying why would they pay for a peice of paper, a peice of cardboard. what exactly is money then? paper, yep. paper for paper sounds good to me. the fact is that black lotus is underpriced, not overpriced. This cards value will only rise. I do realize that most people with lotus got them when magic was still new, and i honor that. the 3 dollars spent on a booster pack is now a 4 digit dollar value card. This card is so good, my words here can not express it enough. So what if is restricted in T1. If your playing with the lotus, then chances are your playing with moxes, vaults, monoliths, rituals, ect... so 1 in a 60 deck isn't that big of a disadvantage. If it wasn't restricted, the format would be so wrong, the whole format would degenerate into nothing. There is very little chance that this card goes unused when you draw it. What kind of t1 game goes to the 9th turn? heck passed the 5th turn. never underestimate this card.
-- By Anonymous from sussex nj usa on April 30, 2004
***** Anyone that would give this card a bad rating is insane there is no way this card could be bad, it's obvious that this card is going to get the ratings it does.
-- By Hellfyre from BAHSTAN on June 16, 2004
***** Best card in the game. Period.
-- By Anonymous from Houston, TX on July 25, 2004
* Ya lotus is great, too bad this one isn't legal in any tournament.
-- By Jon from Rochester, MN USA on September 14, 2004
***** best land/artifact ever! need 3 or 4 for my sliver deck but this card rocks!

-- By Wojtas from Poland from Bydgoszcz on November 07, 2004
***** This is the best magic the gathering mana accelerator they ever created. Sure there may be super lotus in unhinged that is coming out even though I might order a box just to get super morphling, s.n.o.t, or jackass
-- By Anonymous from menomonee falls, wi usa on November 19, 2004
***** I bought a black lotus on trollandtoday and it arrived today. I slept with it the whole day. I'm in love.
  -- By Ted from D.C. on December 04, 2004
***** I don't know how anyone can say this card is not good. You obviously have never used one before. It's the best card in Magic for sheer balance of speed and power, don't bother trying to argue the point.
-- By Greg from Halifax, NS Canada on April 09, 2005
***** Obviously, one of the greatest power cards in the game. I used it in tourney play and once or twice got out the lotus, mox and a duel land and brought out a ball lightning and berserked it. Then proceded to sack it to the dreadnought!!! WOW!!
-- By Shandolf from Richland, WA.USA on April 22, 2005
***** Black Lotus, the best and most wanted card ever. You may summon one mana each turn, but this gives you permament controll over 3 mana. Not a single card can messure itself with this flower. 4 of these in your deck and you're in theory unbeateble. Worth every cent... If you are a serrious player that is.
-- By M!kke/Soulless Child from Sweden on January 09, 2006
***** There is nothing better than the original black lotus!
-- By Anonymous from Mars on January 29, 2006
***** I personally have obtained a Black Lotus Through numerous trades and retrades with friends. IT IS NOT THE UBER CARD that everyone thinks it is. But, whipping it out in a tournament makes people want to cry.
-- By Anonymous from Nashville, TN on May 21, 2006

***** This card has been banned from Magic The Gathering,I think... Anyway, still a Tremendous Powerful Card :D
-- By HellGhast from Portugal on February 06, 2007
**** this card is the most expensive BUT NOT the best card in MTG. it is simply so expensive because people BELIEVE that it is so great and think of it as a status symbol and as a result they don't sell it easily. An Ancestral Recall or all of the Moxes are MUCH MORE efficient in gameplay because even one of them in a deck is a great advantage in ANY turn. How does a turn 12 black lotus can help you anyway ?? put 3 moxen instead and increase your first turn acceleration chance. this card is good... but.. buy an Ancestral Recall if you have that much money dude...
-- By the angel on your shoulder from Ankara, Turkey on February 06, 2007
***** The Aussie was wrong in the use of Black Lotus to add mana against a Power Sink. Although the Lotus is mighty, and has enabled me to slay my opponent before they draw a single card, it is still an artifact and has to be cast. The old Nether Void makes it a 3 mana artifact instead of zero.

I was facing the Nether Void and had to 3-cast the Lotus to provide enough mana to six-cast a creature.

If you have the dough this one can earn you some more. Good luck finding a big tournament with bucks to justify the Black Lotus and her other Power 8 sisters.

I much prefer the Black Lotus - Channel - Concordant Crossroads - 4 x Juggernaut. If they save the Force of Will for the Fireball (or K's Torch) then you still have three make it through.

I picked up my lotus for 2 bucks many moons ago. For another $73,000 you can get your Black Lotus with turbocharged engine.....I'll take an Esprit.
