DescriptionThe Alpha set was designed by Richard Garfield and released in August of 1993.  This set consists of 295 cards, 74 common, 95 uncommon and 116 rares with 10 lands.  Alpha cards have black borders.  There is no set symbol for this set.  The easiest way to discern an Alpha card is the more rounded corner.   The estimated print run was 2,600,000 cards.

Cards of note in this set are many, including the Power Nine cards at the top of the heap. Ancestral Recall, Black Lotus, Mox Emerald, Mox Jet, Mox Pearl, Mox Ruby, Mox Sapphire, Timetwister & Time Walk make up the Power Nine.  Additionally Dual Lands, Birds of Paradise, Serra Angel, Sol Ring & many other notable cards are found throughout the set.

This is hands down the best card in the game. Of course you can't play it in sanctioned tournaments, and it is for all intents and purposes banned, but a card that allows you to draw SEVEN CARDS for ONE MANA is right up there with Black Lotus. I'm buying a play set for casual games.

contract from below is by FAR the best magic card of all time..better than black lotus. The difference between this card and ancestral recall you ask? its like comparing a swamp to a mox jet, no joke. i have won hundred of dollars and many card by sing this card in all my casual decks MUST HAVE 4!!

This is the best magic card ever printed, ancestral Recall is not even half as good. Wheel of fortune is a great card, what would you say to a wheel that is just for you. The only draw back being that you must ante in another card, big deal. Any time you can get 7 new cards for 1 mana you should win any way, so it doesn't matter that you must ante another card. This card is a staple in every 5 color deck, and is just plain silly if you don't play 4 of them. For those of you who don't know, 5 color is the format where everything is legal, you play for ante, and you play a minimum of 250 cards with a minimum of 18 of each color. It is the most fun and best form of magic ever played, you should definetly try to play 5 color, and should definetly play this card!

its banned, and if you dont play with an ante is pointless, the reason it is so cheap is because it requires to gamble away your cards, so if you're playing with your friends w/o a gamble you cant use it, + it is on the ban list
