Excellent card! However, Force of Will is still superior in my opinion. But, this card is far easier to obtain. Also, keep a look out for Pact of Negation. :p

This card needs to be reprinted. Best overall counter magic in the game. A playset belongs in any real control deck.

players decry this card as broken and unfair...yet when you add 1 colorless to the cost it's deemed unplayable. what a conundrum...the only card that's better than this at what it does redefines "broken" to "annihilated" and is so expensive I dare you to afford it. oh, and don't forget about the other piece of the holy trinity of control which can be strictly better than both situationally, but can decimate a novice's card advantage with no gain if they time it incorrectly. this card is perfect.

It makes me cry to know it might not ever again be printed. what would magic be without having to worry about playing your shivan only to have countered. this card is one of the few pioneering cards in magic I feel sorry for new players who will never Know what a counterspell is

The best counterspell in the game, 2 blue and its countered. Far better then Mana Leak which is easily prevented, and way better then those xUU ones that make you pay a potentially retarded amount of mana to counter something. Though another great counter is Overrule, which is sweet because even if they prevent it by paying X, you still gain X life. Though regular old counterspell is where its at for any deck that has some blue in it

What's not to like? It's cheap at two island mana and doesn't have a backdoor mechanism for your opponent like Manaleak and Perplex. Imagine the advantage one could gain by rendering an enemy's spell useless four turns in a row after turn two.

my favourite card. your opponent can (try) to throw you whatever super kill all monster or super damage spell, but if you have this beauty he is powerless i always put it in my merefolk deck.

I think that counterspell is the best card in magic nothing can stop it (besides another type of counterspell)It can stop life threating damage from being delt ,a huge creature from coming into play,or make sure nothing happens to a card of yours .It is a sure fire way to victory.In 1998 a deck in the pro-tour was filled with 22 different types of counterspells andplaced very high .All and all it's a great card.
