To the above combat ( Jay from Minneapolis, MN USA) it prevents combat damage not damage from spells so you would be killing yourself, awesome card though perfect for zombie decks etc. Most people never heard of a black fog. Completely unexpected in a black deck.

I have a R/B deck where this saves my butt everytime. It uses Sleeper Agent, Fobidden Orchard, Repercussion, Earthquake, Volcanic Fallout, etc. And the Darkness saves me from my own combo, lol; not to mention if they are playing a creature deck. Black Fog FTW! Awesome Art too!

A very underated card, I mean come on, who sees a black fog comming? I main deck these in my type 1 reanimator, and it has saved me countless times agenst fast, aggressive swarm decks. Also great in emporer and tribes...
