**** Masticore is a 4/4 for 4 mana, which is quite a good deal to begin with. Throw in the fact that it can regenerate to save itself from lethal damage, disenchant, and Seal of Cleansing, and it is very good. Add the fact that it can ping creatures repeatedly without tapping, and it's nothing short of amazing, even with his drawback (which can be dealt with using Squee, Goblin Nabob as the card to discard). Masticore fits into beatdown decks, clearing away blockers and then attacking, or control decks, killing small creatures and later attacking for the win. Masticore is quite possibly the most versatile creature allowed in Extended play.

***** Top card in any format for the sole reason that it fits in any deck. It regenerates, saving it from many threats making it an excellent blocker, and its one damage manuver kills birds of paradises', and can even take out irridescent angels if needed. It can also block (or simply kill off) shadowmage infiltrators, a perfect solution. It's regeneration will frustrate opponents, it can block blastoderms, and can survive a flametongue kavu. Many decks, especially now can take advantage of flashback, madness, and threshold making its upkeep almost useful. Wizards of the Coasts rtes every card in exsistence on a 0 to 5 scale, with 5 being a card you would guarantee that it would always be in your deck, or you would only build a deck around it. Masticore is one of the few cards ever to reach a 5.0, and that says alot. Any deck can and should use this card. It dominated any format it wa available in, and it simply is too strong.

***** I'm going to go with a 5 but i agree totally with the review above. But i think it deserves a 5. Who cares if you have to discard this thing is a one creature army.

***** I give this card five stars. There is obviosly a drawback a drawback to the card, the discard cost, but none of that ends up mattering with all the good aspects of this card. It's an artifact, is 4 for a 4/4, can regenerate, and ping creatures away. This is one of the few cards in Magic that can completely turn a game around.

***** This card was broken even before the madness cards came out. Enough said.

***** Masticores....all the people i've played using them have earned the fear and respect it totally deserves. It's a superb regenerative creature that deals lots of damage before it dies, and is so fun to use. Many a times as soon as I cast my masticore, the opponent concedes.

***** Masticore is one of the most feared cards of all times. The combo that works best with this card is a another Artifact from Stronghold it's called

***** This is one good creature! a 4/4 for 4 mana; wwooww!!!! tip: to use this creatures ultimate abileties, use a heartstone. Then its just like a blaze, or wathever.this also makes the regen abilety much better. Tip: you can also use heartstone with shivan hellkite, then you can use it just like a blaze, but it can also deal damage to your opponent/s

***** i give this card a 5 star for being just a unstoppable creature the damage it can deal and regenerating can save ur ass pretty well too and this creature can be effective in the trinity green deck i saw that won the 2000 world champion it was used affectivley besides the deranged hermits in there and mana beatdown itself enough said.
-- By paul schlaich 15 from conneaut ,OH on December 24, 2002
***** This can be used in conjunction with animate dead and dance of the dead! Discard a strong card such as Jungle wurm and then animate dead it! That saved you 1 mana, for the masticore costs a meager 4 mana. Masticore by itself can seem useless but remember, threshhold and madness? Yes this can be used in conjunction! I thought it was too good to be true myself but i asked wizards of the coasts and they said it was completly legal! 'nuff said?

***** Masticore is by far one of the best creatures in Magic, and I would definately urge those of you who have the money to buy some and use them. It can turn a game around for you, and by adding cards like Spirit Link and Loxodon Warhammer you gain large amounts of life very fast. Another great combo is with Sword of Kaldra, which enables the Masticore to remove any creature it pings from the game. A great card.
-- By Greg from Canada on November 09, 2003
**** Just one of the most famous and best artifact creatures in magic the gathering. But playing with masticore isn't like playing with other more useful creature cards. For example listening kreator isn't as good as listening burzum or bathory.
-- By celtic frost, burzum, obituary, rush, bathory from Greece on November 14, 2003
**** too high a cost from the damage or regeneration, good though
-- By Mike Smith from Ottawa, Ontario, Canada on September 15, 2004
***** Possibly the best creature EVER! Can go in any deck, consistent efficiency, big regenerator so its good to throw into the melee and attack, or be a good defensive stalwart! And its ability is relentless, you can pick off creatures to no end, its phenomenal!! Nothing like it, the best!
-- By Nick from Tampa on October 30, 2004
***** Good card,very famous.
-- By boris chiu from hong kong on January 05, 2005
***** This card is one of the most amazing creatures ever to pass playtesting. It should be banned as it is simply too powerful (although I have four and would sorely miss them), this card is nonetheless unfair. It works in any deck--control, speed, burn, horde, defensive, offensive, whatever! Masticore regenerates and pings weenies, what more could one ask? Oh yeah, it's also a 4/4 for four mana. I have used this card to devastating effect in all of my reincarnations of my green horde deck and never regretted it. This is simply one of the most overpowered creatures in existence.
-- By James Farley from NYC on June 03, 2005
***** This card has virtually no drawback. The one card each turn is worth it since this card can essentially clear the field in one fell swoop.
-- By Chris Zocher from AZ, USA on July 13, 2006
**** As time pass by almost all players old and new have forgotten this little fellow.
-- By gremory the duke from greece on January 11, 2008
***** awsome card, just one question, does squee work or not?
  -- By Anonymous from sudbury,ontario,canada on March 02, 2008
***** Yes, Squee is the perfect pair for this. Honestly this cards best ability is the ability to trade someone one masticore for an insane amount of good cards.
-- By Dinosaur from Capron, IL on September 24, 2008
***** It's the best creature I've ever seen in MTG especially using with red+artifact control deck. Since I've been using this deck, I've never lost again!!! damm it!!!!
