***** 5 stars for moxes - its pretty obvious why this is too different from a swamp , as card sickness we can only drop one land each turn ... and having a mox in your hand will definitely break that rule... stupid people saying this is not good cause they are not good either...

-- By Noy Noy Aquino from Philippines on January 05, 2011

* Why on earth would anyone spend a $1,000 on a single card? I mean come on buy a few of these and you could have bought your own printing press; make your own forged MOX and lotus cards. Plus not only is it an obscene waste of money it breaks the MTG game play, in a way, as it gives an unfair advantage to players who have more money. Granted all MTG cards become more valuable the better they are, however the difference in power and cost of cards like these is far greater than any difference between your standard MTG cards.

***** this is my first piece of power and i was beyond excited to pick it up. the people who didn't give this card AT LEAST 4 stars (only because you can't play 4 and for good reason) must only play standard and have never died before they can get a turn. whoever thinks this is just a swamp or worse and doesn't want fast mana is a newb. arguing with you is not worth the time. look at a vintage tournament deck list and see how many of them are playing moxen... all of them except if their deck is meant to hate on the moxen and other artifacts. get your heads out of your standard butts

-- By Mista from Cali on December 20, 2010

***** Like all MOXES-5 stars. First turn hymn to tourach? Nasty. Not to mention the many many many 1st turn kill combos that start with one black mana. Anyone that says this is no different from a swamp is 12 years old or less.

-- By Anonymous from Ga. on June 03, 2010

***** ...5 stars are not enough to rate this card... this card is a card advantage in a right deck ... specially in a 1st turn kill deck... imagine 0 cost card that produce a mana? now try to think why this card is better than a swamp..

-- By cesar from neutralgrounds on March 30, 2010

***** 4 moxs on the first turn? can i play where you're permitted to play with 4 moxs in your deck? why not make it an ante game while we're at it. lol.

-- By anonymous from Phila. Pa. USA on February 27, 2010

***** @Mark - You must have gotten Lotus Petal and Mox Jet confused with one another. Mox Jet doesn't get sacrificed after being tapped for mana. @Mox Jet - Second best mox due to the fact that the color black gives you such awesomeness as Demonic Tutor, Vampiric Tutor, Imperial Seal, Hymn to Tourach, Mind Twist and other goodies.

-- By Khurtz from Fairport, NY on February 24, 2010

***** Wait hold on! Are you sure you play magic? I don't see anything on a mox that makes it resemble a Black Lotus. Black Lotus dies after one use. Moxes DON'T! You want to get rid of it after one use, you just shatter it then. Moxes are permanents and don't die after one use. You might need to read the text again. And for the last time, Moxes are better than swamps because you can play only 1 swamp per turn unless otherwise with a spell. If you get a very very very very lucky hand with no real spells to do a first turn win, think of this: Turn 1, swamp, 4 Mox Jets. You've got 5 mana to work with first turn. Hmmm, can you get 4 swamps out the first turn? not really.

-- By IanNoel from Chicago, IL USA on February 22, 2010

* No, its not the same as a swamp... it is way, way worse. You use these one time and then its dead and you have no more mana. Swamps stay on the board so you can use them over and over. That's why the moxes suck.

-- By Mark from Wisconsin on December 14, 2009

* this mox sucks

-- By Kevin Lao from Afghanistan on July 03, 2009

***** Nothing beats a First turn: Swamp, Mox Jet, Dark Ritual, Duress, Thoughtseize, Hymn to Tourach. followed up by a next turn Nantuko Shade....ahhh.....sweet bliss

-- By animefiend7 from Littleton, CO on May 23, 2009

***** Well, forget about theoretically playing four. That's missing the point. You can only one mox jet in your deck unless you are playing against a nimrod in a friendly match. And I've seen first turn wins with decks using cards that are all weatherlight (or whichever set has serra avatar) or newer; they aren't all that unlikely in a deck that is constructed for them.

-- By DbyZer0 from NJ USA on April 14, 2009

***** so much better than a swamp reason being imagine having 4 of these in ur deck and somehow u get all 4 and a swamp in ur first draw 5 black mana right there or imagine 4 mox jets, 2 black lotus, 1 phage the untouchable, and any card that gives it haste, 1st turn win those odds r near impossible but still, thats why its better than a swamp lol

-- By J from Cheektowaga NY usa on December 14, 2008

***** I Ment first turn mountain Mox jet Black lotus dark ritual....Plunge into darkness....paying all life ..... manaforge cinder darkritual champion Nova Chaser.....Reckless charge Blazing shoal by discarding dragon tyrant.......fling or rite of initiation..hehehehehehe.. or for best results......... rites of consumption.... SO BURY THE POOR GUY IN THE SWAMP ALREADY DUDE!

-- By Cheesy from Philippines on July 28, 2008

***** For those who are confused, what makes the moxes better than basic lands is that they are artifacts and thus have no limit to how many you can play per turn. With the moxes it is theoretically possible for you to have seven mana on your first turn, as opposed to what you could only achieve with basic lands which is one. Using fast mana acceleration with cards such as Black Lotus and the Moxes in combination with other powerful cards, it is possible to win as early as turn one.

***** BBBBRRRRIIIINNNNGGGG IIINNN THE HATE......-HATRED

-- By CHEESY from Phil on June 01, 2008

***** I remember when I first started playing magic, I too thought that the Mox's were stupid. What they are just mana. Then I learned what having extra mana on turn one means. People with all five mox's thats five mana turn one. Just think besides the awesome combos that it could make just look at it this way. A huge creature first turn. I cant think of a simpler way to explain why they rock.

-- By Brendan from Fort Bragg, CA on April 12, 2008

***** The speed of all decks are governed by two things, card advantage and mana advantage . Think about if I go first I lay down a swamp and a mox than you go you lay down a swamp than I go I lay down a swamp. I now have three black to your one; I now have a mana advantage of two. Or If you go first you lay down a swamp than I go I lay down a swamp and a mox you have just lost you first turn mana advantage and now I have a card advantage. Because I went 2nd so I got to draw giving me 8 eight cards to your 7. But come 2nd turn you will not have the mana advantage because I will have two black and you will have two black so you lost the advantage of going first, mana wise. A mox jet on the first three turns can put you one step ahead of your opponent . (Not to mention what happens when combining it with other fast mana like sol ring, dark ritual and the other moxes.) Swamps do not do this because swamps only allow you to match mana producing speed with your opponent not speed past them. Imagine if you could lay down two swamps for one turn within the first 3 turns and your opponent could not. You would have and obvious unfair advantage. That is what a mox is a obvious unfair advantage. A draw of a mox in your first hand could be the deciding factor of a win. You also lose no space in your deck or draw just replace a swamp with the jet. It's a free advantage.

-- By Jeremiah from USa on April 08, 2008

* Wow. A card with no mana cost that can be tapped for one black mana... Um, HELLO?! This is exactly the same thing as a Swamp.

  -- By Mox-hater from anti-mox-ville on March 31, 2008

***** Food for my Gorilla Shaman!......Rawr!

-- By Nick from The Deep South on February 11, 2008

***** YAY mana amazingness! first turn glimpse! (well thats what i'd use it for)

-- By John from Death Valley on January 12, 2008

***** Alpha Swamp--$1.49 Alpha Mox Jet--$586.49 Sol Ring, Lotus Petal, Mox Jet, Mox Ruby, Mox Emerald, Channel, and Fireball on the 1st draw--priceless :-) Seriously, if your deck was a race car, the moxi are the nitrous. A swamp and a Mox Jet on turn one may not seem like much, but a turn 1 10/10 Minion of the Wastes or pair of Phyrexian Negators (courtesy of two Dark Rituals) will have your opponent writhing in pain and probably dead by round 3.

-- By jC from Alameda, NM USA on August 08, 2007

* will someone PLEASE explain WHY this is any better than a swamp

-- By DDw from dsafa on February 07, 2007

***** Swamp? No, all swamps do is add a B to your mana pool AND you can only play one per turn. That's mediocre. This is an artifact, meaning you could play multiple artifacts per turn (maybe other moxen?), it's also a spell. Wait, that adds to the storm count for popular Type I decks (Tendrils). This card is phenomenal, and is probably tied for being the best of the five (with Sapphire being a hard contender).

-- By mtgjuggalo from Asheville, NC on December 11, 2006

*** So, great. An extra mana the initial turn. $650. w00t. Why not just say "I'm spending my parents' money!111!"?

-- By Anonymous from Oregon on November 03, 2006

***** On the surface it looks like a swamp, but let me ask you: how many swamp can you play and how many mox jet can you play a turn??

-- By Daevidd Martinn from Dunlin, Eire(Ireland) on August 07, 2006

***** A swamp you say? My dear friend its more than that, it a mox! Meaning faster mana production! Lastly, meaning you dont know anything about magic. Period.

-- By Anonymous from Beside Rakdos on July 16, 2006

***** I guess a turn 1 kill is better... And guys.. don't even say this is anything LIKE a swamp.. you're just lowering yourselves, any serious magic player understands the power of this card and the other moxes...

-- By WJ from Netherlands on December 13, 2005

***** this card is great....

-- By ALLEN PHILIP B. FLORES from CALGARY, ALBERTA on November 11, 2005

***** This card is perfect. It sits happily on the table wherever I put it. If I flip it up into the air, sometimes it lands "face up" an sometimes it lands "face down." It has words and pictures, both of which enhance the card's appearance and value, and I can use it as a coaster for my martini IF I SO CHOOSE.

-- By Dan Ennis from Old Bridge, NJ on December 09, 2004

***** this is so much better than a swamp, and is so much better than a first turn black knight, it could give you a first turn win in many decks in type 1, that's why it's so expensive

-- By billybob jojangle from dixieland on November 19, 2004

***** .......hmmmm....swamp,mox jet,dark ritual,dark ritual......6 black mana on your first turn......yummy death!

-- By ghoulish girl from edmonton canada on August 24, 2004

***** Anyone who says this is just a swamp should be burried alive in a swamp.

-- By Lord Nathox from 7th Plane on August 17, 2004

***** its better than a swamp - you can get it out first turn to speed up your mana production

-- By Anonymous from NJ USA on December 07, 2002

*** SO its rare. woohoo. all it really is is a swamp.

-- By ME from GA on October 25, 2002

***** Nothing is better then haveing a first turn black knight am I right?
