This card is a classic, hitting the restricted list for a while because there were that many restricted targets it could copy! Returning to magic after a 10 year hiatus, I see this is no longer on the restricted lists though, so I should see how many I have lurking around for my old Vintage decks (doubt I could muster 4, but maybe 2 or 3)

Mirari is not always better. It cost 5 and is an Artifact. It can die more easily. But this even though it has a one time use aside from being on the isochron is that its a suprise. They fireball you for 20....you fireball them first.

They play timewalk...you copy it and basically negate them having an extra turn. What is awesome is if they go first and play Cultivate or Kodamas Reach... Sudely you get the land boost too. Mirari can't copy their win conitions and sometimes its huge. Copying a hardcasted decree of justice or a kicked Conquerors pledge for only 2 mana is insane

this card Twincast and Reverberate get my vote

You need not (and may not) pay any additional mana or other costs (like sacrifices) to use the spell which is Forked. You get control over a complete copy but can change nothing except the targets. [Duelist Magazine #11, Page 57]

Extra costs which are in the spell text but not in the cost at the top of the card still count as part of the cost and do not need to be paid by the player casting Fork. This includes extra mana in Soul Burn. [Duelist Magazine #11, Page 57]

For spells like Fireball that allow mana to be used for damage or for additional targets, the controller of the copy must use the same number of targets the original spell did. [Duelist Magazine #3, Page 22]

Forking a spell with an X in the cost like Detonate requires you to use the same X value. In the case of Detonate, you must find an artifact with exactly the cost X. [WotC Rules Team 1994/09/30]

Does not let you make non-targeting choices about the spell. [Aahz 1997/11/17]

so yes i fireball you for 10 and fork it, YOU DIE. i don't need to pay the X for the fork too. it's a copy of the original only difference is i choice new target/targets.

All I have to say is Isochron Scepter and Fork...get a couple Isochron scepters out, maybe one with a lightning bolt (or anything you like) and one with a fork and there you have it folks...

What to say that hasn't already been said? They should make a new, less powerful version of this card and call it 'spork'.

I have been playing magic for 14 years now and if u cast a 10pt fireball, blaze, incinerate, drain life, soul burn, consume spirit etc fork becomes AN EXACT COPY!!! ergo ur opponent or u play either spell listed and then forks it after that spell is played IT BECOMES AN EXACT COPY!!!! as it says in the cards text and the text does not say u have to pay x,which means u have a 10 pt fireball etc for two red mana because when that spell comes out the red mana and the x are both paid at the same time so the fork caster DOES NOT NEED TO PAY X! as it already has been previously payed by the original caster because at the time of casting u have to pay the x besides the required color, the only way it would work if some1 played a 0 cost fireball or soulburn which does no damage, otherwise if some1 played an 11 red mana 10 pt fireball which means the fireball at the time of its casting is a 10pointer and if u fork it that fork becomes a 10pt fireball

Fork + fireball + channel = win
Fork + bloodlust + berserker = win
Fork + any sorcery/instant that is big = win
......
You get the idea.

on top of that with the release of twincast you just now have potentially 8 ways of doubling output.....

This card is great with burn spells. This is a key to 1 of my combos: I play 4 rite of flames (Play one to play another and so on) to get 11 mana. I play an X burn spell for 10 damage, play fork for 20.

Fork is great yes, but you noobs are misenterpreting it. If you duplicate a soul burn or say a fireball you do NOT duplicate the x. So if you fork a soul burn congrats, you now have 2 soul burns. However it is always fun when an opponent says "I fork the soul burn", and I say with a sly grin "good job, now pay the x for that second soul burn"

Think about this card in a group game. You play Isochron Scepter imprinting this card onto it, now reserve 2 mana, and suddenly anything anyone throws to anyone, is now up for grabs. Just think about that, someone is about to take someone else out with a large fireball, suddenly, you grab it, throw it back at them.

I myself, having played for about 3 to 4 years now, have always wanted a Fork of my own. Recently I traded a friend some very good cards, just to get one of my own. Now, lets think about the posible uses for this card...

Lets say I am using a random deck have five mountains untapped, they have a whorde of puny elves ready to poke me to death next turn. I have three cards in my hand after I drew my card not really paying attention to what I drew. I decide to play a lightning bolt, now they were at 8 before hand. So they remain at five while i have 3 untapped mana while I have another burn card, shock. since they are not using counter magic I will play a shock leaving them at three to end my turn... But wait, I just happen to have drawn a card this turn... wow, what a coincidence, I drew a Fork! (I bet you can see where i am going...) I tap my two untapped mountains and decide on which spell to use it on. Shock, no... I guess I will fork the only spell on the stack that will finish him/her off. Lighning bolt is plit into two spells each dealing 3 damage each along with a 2 damage shock.
They lose, rendering their mob of elves... USELESS!!!

This card is a must in almost every red deck. Mirari may seem good, but it costs five mana and that limits it's usefulness. My friend put that card in his deck and he never gets a chance to use it because he can only get it out late in the game. When he does he rarely gets a chance to use its effect and I usually destroy it with a disenchant. Fork, however can be played early and effectively. For example, if my opponent uses a counterspell on me, I can fork the counterspell to counter it.

Ahh the old fork... so diverse and powerful! The obvious thing to do is fork a lightning bolt or incinerate, that can easily spell win! Even better is to tap 2 and float it, sac the mountains for fireblast then use the flaoted mana to fork it, H-bomb right there! An overlooked benefit of this card is the ability to copy something an opponent cast also, so if they cast a soothing balm you can gain 5 life also to break even, whatever you want! Short list material!

Fork is a great combo card to use with cards such as time walk and searing wind.

PS: the guy who wrote the other review was probably slightly drunk(check what time he wrote it)

lol.. last week, playing a 5 player game, 4 mana flares on the board.. Four of us were a bout to die when I played a 30pt psychic drain on the 5th guy, just to say I did and low and behold the from the Gobo deck on the left came a fork... 60 cards off the library in one turn... we laughed about it for days

I agree with review #2 Number 1 was probably drunk or stoned. What an amatuer. HE probably sucks at magic. The fork is awesome. I love the card. I bow to it in my room sometimes (not really) its good but it can only help you once giving you a slight advantage but what happens when your opponent comes up with something that quadruples the power of fork then mirrors on you.

Solid card that can throw a direct damage deck over the top. Throw 4 of them in a deck and start drawing. Particularly useful in a red/white deck where you can either bash you opponent or stock up your own life.

The fact that you can only use it once is fairly unimportant since it's typically easy to recycle.

Mirari's fun too, but as an artifact it can be toasted or, worse yet, stolen.

Why does everyone rave about this card? Yes, it is pretty good, but cards like Mirari are a million times better! This card you can only use once unless you have a card like Holistic wisdom.
