| Description | The Alpha set was designed by Richard Garfield and released in August of 1993. This set consists of 295 cards, 74 common, 95 uncommon and 116 rares with 10 lands. Alpha cards have black borders. There is no set symbol for this set. The easiest way to discern an Alpha card is the more rounded corner. The estimated print run was 2,600,000 cards. Cards of note in this set are many, including the Power Nine cards at the top of the heap. Ancestral Recall, Black Lotus, Mox Emerald, Mox Jet, Mox Pearl, Mox Ruby, Mox Sapphire, Timetwister & Time Walk make up the Power Nine. Additionally Dual Lands, Birds of Paradise, Serra Angel, Sol Ring & many other notable cards are found throughout the set. |

..........although if you were going to do that i'd recommend going with 'mountain 2' and 'mountain 3' on this site.
'mountain 1' is probably the worst one of all time. so i'd only go with that one if you wanted to beat someone with the "ugly" stick................

i've always enjoyed the 'ice age' block of 'mountain's. they always reminded me somehow of the personal drawings j.r.r. tolkien would do to accompany his manuscripts for that never ending saga of his. that being said, this art doesn't seem to jive too well with many MTG cards. not even 'beta.' or its like. its just too different, although like i said, still happening. perhaps this artist could have did a small set like 'arabian nights' or 'the dark' and it would be much more known and used today. in conclusion, recommend but hard to put in a constructed deck and make look good. so that's your art project for next year kiddies. to make a competitive deck of whatever format you're playing and put a few of these "old style" 'mountain's(while still looking good) in there for the party............
