This card was meant to hose red speed decks. If they discard a spell, then that is 3 damage prevented, which is equal to life gain, and if they discard a land, that is 3 more damage that has to be dealt. Its a lose lose situation for them.

one is tempted to play with the two colors in this card's mana cost as there seems to be an abundance of cards from this set with the same mana colors in their spells(ala 'death grasp' , 'vindicate', 'caves of koilos', etc.). play with 'wrench mind' in my monoblack 1.5 deck's sideboard. but, i could mainboard these babies if it weren't for the darned jankiest of mana costs. not worth screwing around my deck for anyway, although it would allow me to sideboard a bit more diversely. just not at the cost of screwing my mana base up and opening myself to 'wasteland' and other cards like 'dust bowl', 'ruination', and 'blood moon' to name a few. but, if you're playing these colors recommend highly................

This card reminds me of Hymn to Tourach. While it is multicolored and doesn't force a random discarding like the Hymn did, it makes you gain life for each land discarded so it might make decks (especially aggressive decks) want to discard spells to keep you from gaining life. The only bad part about this card is that if you draw it late (when your opponent has no cards left in their hand), it's fairly worthless. Still, it's very good, and it might just make discard decks popular in Type II again.
