@ Vintage banning reasons - The reason this card was banned in type 1 was because people would go first and play Mishra's Workshop, tap for 3 mana, play trinisphere and there opponent would sit there and cry having a bunch of moxes in their hand. To my knowledge it was banned for making an "unfun play environment" in vintage.

@ Trinisphere haters AKA Jim - As far as this card being "bad" against high casting cost decks, that's entirely dependent on what you couple it with. With Smokestack their high casting cost cards don't matter as they will never play them since you just blow away all their lands. Basically you need to include mana denial in some form or another in addition to playing this card in order to get the optimized effect. By the by, my meta mostly contains decks that win on turn 1-4 which this card completely decimates. If anyone tried to play a deck in my meta that contained more than a few cards with casting cost 4 or more they would be laughed out of the tournament as their opponents went turn 1 Charbelcher or Ad Nauseum on them. I play Legacy by the way.

@ Trinisphere - Nasty nasty card in so many formats. Even Legacy can play it turn one with Mox Diamond + Land that produces 2 mana. I play a version of U/W Tezzeret stax that does pretty well and resolving one of these babies first turn is always welcomed : - )

So Jim, do you run into a lot of 'beast decks' up there in Wisconsin?

The reason people hate it is because Chalice of the Void for 3 mana (That makes it so when you cast a spell that costs three its instantly countered) Thus ultimate lockdown.

Yeah, bring on your goblins. This card slows down decks hectically! I'd build a deck entirely arond this card! Bye bye affinity, goblins and elves!

I give it a 5 star in terms of totally screwing your opponents. Just imagine having this out together with Crucible of Worlds and Stripmine/Wasteland. Too bad for me, because I was at the receiving of that nasty lock. It can also be used by Land Destruction/Mana Denial decks to shut-out opponents from the game. That my friend is a good reason to restrict it.

this seems to be a card people really hate, due to the fact it now restricted on the WoTC website for type one. I'm thinking about neither void and this, making everything cost 6 to play. Is this the reason this is bad and restricted??? or is there some sick combo i'm not figuring out. If anyone else know what's up please list

LOL, Dave. As a matter of fact, no, I don't see a lot of beast decks, but I do see plenty of decks in which the majority of cards cost 4 or more. Ever seen any of those down there in Texas?

These are banned anyway, so what's the point in arguing? You can't play with them. And to the guy from Fairport saying decks with 4 drop cards will get laughed out of tournaments, have you ever played any of the other formats? Things like Planeswalkers, Akroma, and Baneslayer are everywhere, so maybe you need to learn what your talking about, then come back and try again.

This is another card I was excited to get in a booster, and then I used it a couple of times and found that it is too inconsistent to really be useful. While it is a great card to have against something like a goblin or weenie deck, it is really useless against things like Dragon or Beast decks. Any card that has this much chance of doing you absolutely no good in a game is not worth putting in a deck.
