Ghostly Flame

definite sideboard - Akroma won't know what hit her!

INquest was always silly in their reviews. For it's time this was an excellent sideboard card, in addition to having great flavor. This is easily a 3 star card.

in the first year of my introduction to magic the gathering i played black and red almost exclusively. after awhile i just couldn't seem to reach the top of the mountain with this color combination and moved on up and down the color wheel into different deck themes...but that's a story for another time. but then, as before and after, MTG had a lot of "protection from..." cards of which most seemed to be from the colors i was playing. so i played with some of these babies up above along with 'nevinyrral's disk' to even the odds a bit. looking back it probably wasn't good card advantage to play these although there weren't the cards today(like 'cursed scroll' and 'masticore' and etc.)that were there when i started playing. that being said, it always mystified me why publications like "inquest" would give this card a one-star rating, especially as my play experience would rate it about a two to three depending on how many you main or sideboarded in playing. on a second note, i just LOved the artwork which was kool as crappy, especially in a fuddyduddy set like 'ice age.' kinda reminded me of the "golden" age comics with the WWII era "human torch." in conclusion, not a bad deal , especially in your sideboard as i almost guarantee your opponent won't be expecting it.....................
