This card is one of the best spot removal spells in the game. Anyone who would rate it a 1 is has obviously either not played with it or they have lost to it. While StP is better most of the time, the drawback does not make the card bad at all. I use 4 Swords to Plowshares and 4 Path to Exiles in my control deck and love both. Path is almost never a disapointing draw.

The words "basic land" makes this even more powerful than swords in type 1/1.5 where everyone is holding Dual Lands.

I agree that this card is better than Sword to Plowshire in some deck. If the deck is not seek the victory from Life Points (for example a milled deck) then Sword of Plowshire is better, but if you play deck in beatdown type then this card is more useful. Change a creature into a basic land.

For slain creature like Ball Lighting, Tarmogoyf, and the others big creature cards, I rather used this card than Sword to Plowshire... Esp. for Legacy (that many player used dual lands rather than basic lands)... Great card!!! Can be used in my Parfait deck... Path to Exile, then Land Tax.... hehehe....

I give this card five stars because Path to Exile can be used as alternative card of Sword to Plowshire! Great and wonderful card!!

Those of you who graded this card a 1-star either A) Don't care for WHITE B) Have lost miserably to Path or C) Don't really understand the strategic nature of Magic. I'm not a fan of Black &/or Red; however, I would never dream of rating Dark Ritual or Lightning Bolt less than 4-stars. Please keep things in perspective when rating cards rather than throwing a temper-tantrum.

THE best spot creature removal in the game. EVER. I have personally used this little beauty to kill a first turn Phage.

...wow absolutely perfect , very cheap to cast for a very devastating effect, better than unmake, oblivion ring and crib swap, but not with swords to plowshares, anyways path to exile is perfect for white weenies....

you want to maelstrom pulse my spectral procession token, and knock out the 5 others? nope. instead I think I'll ramp myself up a mana and make your spell fizzle.

This is a staple for sure card; it's cheap, it's amazing against Demigod of Revenge, and if you really need to, you can play it one of your own creatures and ramp yourself up a mana. With unearth cards, and cards like Makeshift Mannequin and Profane Command, removing the card from the game is awesome.

Five Stars. Excellent card. I can't think of a better replacement for Swards to Plowshares, given the types of drawbacks (or balances) that are the way of the day.Exact ability of the classic, but with giving the controller a taped land instead of life, so it thins their deck and gives them next turn mana, but no life. It is potentially better than life equal to the toughness (for weak creatures), but potentially worse for you as you wont be able to save your game by gaining life through killing one of your own big creatures. This card has a beautiful picture and a game saving ability. You can top deck for a classy win with this one.

I have to disagree with you Provo, UT. This card doesn't make other cards obsolete. There is only one other removal card that is on par with this anyway and that's Swords to Plowshares. White has a lot of great removal (Wrath of God anyone?) so another card just adds to the sweetness. That being said I do agree this is a staple that pretty much any white deck will need.

A truly wonderful card. It truly rivals Swords to Plowshares and is every bit as good, it just depends on the game situation. In general, Swords to Plowshares will be better for early game creature removal, as they tend to have lesser power than those cast late game.Path to Exile, on the other hand, seems better served as a late-game creature removal spell, rather than early game, as early game, the land advantage would be far more significant.All-in-all, a great card, but this is better served later in the game, on big creatures. For smaller creatures, however, STP would be a much better choice.

not bad, but early in the game...it's a bad, bad idea. however, im giving this 5 stars because of one card in particular: demigod of revenge. once your opponent has the mana to play the demigod, chances are that another one won't do much of anything for them, so...this is just a condemn minus the life gain! there are some other good uses, too. should make an impact from vintage on up.

Thank you WotC for not making it rare!It even goes nice with things like Land Tax and Knight of the White Orchid

In Type 2, WOW! This card is a beast in that format. Every standard white deck should think about replacing their Unmake or Crib Swap for these. Awesome! In Vintage, though, I can't forsee this card every rivaling Swords to Plowshares. Off "the plow," there's only lifegain. Off the "exile," the deck is thinned (yes, by only 1 card, but thinning is always positive) and an extra land can be put into play, potentially allowing a land advantage to swing sides. I'd much rather you just gain some life and, other than that, leave the rest of the game state pretty much unchanged. Again, though, in standard? Get 4 now! Draft all you see! Not drafting white? Hate-draft them out of the pool! Why haven't you got foil Japanese ones yet!?

Creature removal hasn't been this good since Swords to Plowshares. This isn't for the early drops, save this for their 5th (or later) turn when they tap out to unleash their game changer. Nuke it with the tap of a single land.

I can't give this card 5 stars because it gives your opponent mana acceleration and thins his deck, which I do not like. This makes it riskier than swords to plowshares. Life is easier of overcome than an opponents mana acceleration. Great card nonetheless.

very versatile card! good for late game play, stop major threats, use it on ur own creature in responjse b4 it hits ur grave if u have mana problems, however ploweshares is better. top card 4 da white winni lorwyn block.

I actually like this card better than Swords to Plowshares because of its late game usage. Plowshares gives the opponent extra life while this card simply brings in an extra land

Cards like these, which make many otherwise playable cards obsolete, should never be printed. Making pseudo copies of already powerful cards is painfully annoying to say the least. That said, it's a staple card and you'll have to put up with it in Standard for another 1 1/2 years and Extended for longer than you care to think about.
