Wrath effects
Protection stops: damage, targeting (to include equiping and enchantments etc), blockingProtection does not stop effects that do not target  or do not deal damage (wrath of god, mutilate etc)That said there are plenty of things to get around this guys protection. Still a great card.

If you take the time to read the rules concerning protection and exactly what that means, you will see that a creature with protection from white will, in fact, still get destroyed by Wrath of God. Since WoG doesn't target anything or deal damage, it is one of the cards that fits into the loophole of the protection rules. Check the rules.

idk about you guys but i can get this guy out in 4 turns and win on the 5th turn
Turn 1: Play a Forest and a Utopia Sprawl(doesn't matter what color you choose)
Turn 2: Play any Basic Land and any Signet
Turn 3: Tap you Land and your Utopia Sprawl enchanted forest for 3 mana, use one mana to tap your signet for two mana long as you have 1 green mana to play Channel the Suns and play Malestrom Archangel (5/5 flying)
Turn 4: Attack with the Angel and because it dealt combat damage you can Play Progenitus for FREE
Turn 5: Attack with both creatures and end the game
Granted there are flaws in it but, it works,
I suppose you could use a dragon arch instead of the Archangel then on the next turn play Progenitus because that way its not counterable, but far as I know, a 5 turn kill with a 5 color deck is pretty good

It does give it protection from Wrath, anything with protection cannot be targeted, destroyed, enchanted, or blocked or (D.E.B.T.) by whatever its protected from, in this case...everything. However, things that target the player, like wingshards for example, will totally work, Final Jugdement would also work because it removes all creature from the game, and doesn't destroy anything. If your going to comment, read the rules first.

I don't see why some people are drinking some serious Haterade to my good friend Progenitus here. First and last off, he's a 10/10 that has protection from EVERYTHING. Once Progenitus hits the field it's basically game since your opponent can't do diddly-squat him. Get him out early with Elvish Piper, Dramatic Entrance, or Dragon Arch. Some may complain he makes Magic no fun, but come on! You wouldn't want to own a hydra that's as high as the sky? HOW COULD ANYTHING BE MORE AWESOME?!

Gonna put him and Emrakul in my sliver deck. No real reason. Also Protection from Everything doesn't really mean everything, it can still be affected by things such as Wrath of God. And if you really wanted you could bypass the legend rule using Mirror Gallery, idk why you'd want multiple Progenituses (or would it be Progeniti?)

This card rocks! Forget complaining about the stupid large mana cost, it's a game finisher! ALSO STOP TRYING TO GIVE IT TRAMPLE IT HAS PROTECTION FROM EVERYTHING!!!!!!!

To above reviewer, while all of those could cause progenitus to die, they all allow the opponent using him to pick which creatures die. Progenitus will be the last, and you'll be lucky to get two turns to do it, especially because all of those cards are black.

Its either Wrath of God, Armaggedon, or... not much, really.

Also consider Armillary spheres, a common artifact from the same set, allow you to play this with ten of ANY mana.

So how do you cast in standard? Play red, white, blue, possibly green. Red/white tons of removal. Blue tons of counters and polymorph. Play token generators like Dragon Fodder, Elspeth, Garruk and the only creature is Prog. polymorph off of a token and you are guaranteed to hit Prog. turn fourProg. Lay mountain and island then any other two colors. Dragon fodder turn two polymorph turn four. With all the counter and removal...no Day of Judgment, no clone, no mind control. It does work well.

So this card is absolutely insane, but I have one question...
Does protection from everything include artifacts? like Darksteel colossus? because if it does... then this is insane

hahahahaha just put him in my plains/forest deck with alara reborn multicolored that give monsters with power 5 or greater bonuses and i could have him out with 25/25 by no later than the 5th turn this is insane. Wonder how? first turn play birds of paradise. second turn drop any creature with exalted like oasali pridemage. third turn drop mighty emergence. fourth turn play elvish piper tap its ability with birds of paradise mana and summon knight of new alara. 5th turn tap elvish piper to summon progenitus and play might of oaks. talk about a game winner. assuming you have mana every turn very happen to happen this way but possible and if you dont have him in your hand by the 6th turn just play and artifact called 6 colorless mana planar portal allows you to search your library and pick a card and put into your hand for another 6 colorless mana and tapping this artifact. i do believe that is broken lol

exalted gives +1/+1 and mighty emergence gives any creature that comes into play 2 +1/+1 counters, knight of new alara gives +1/+1 for each of the monsters color, then might of oaks +7/+7.
10+1+2+5(all the colors)+7=insane (25)

I have him in a dragon deck along with dragon arch, a few of the ultimatum cards, conspiracy, Maelstrom Archangel, and door of destinies. the decks kinda timmy but it's alot of fun to play with. once it starts it rips through the competition like a wood chipper and progenitus has been the deciding factor in probably half of my wins.

I have one for you all. I have an artifact dragon arch card that i wanted to combine with the progenitus card. That would had made it the ultimate deck combo. Check it out for yourself the card has to be in play (of course) then pay 2 non colorless mana and tap, to put a multicolored creature card from your hand into play.since the dragon arch does not go away unless distroy artifact card says so the use it on a conflux deck and blame one creature comes out for 2 non-colorless each turn.hit me back if any of you all have a comment about this or want to thank me for a hint thanks.

I hear you man. I'm tired of hearing people cry about mana costs. Their is always a way to work around a problem in the game of magic. I am a proud owner of progenitus and I'd say it's one of the best and coolest.

Just though up a newer and MUCH MUCH faster way to play him in JUST 2 TURNS!!!

The number way to get him out is in two turns, HOW? This is how.

Turn 1: Forest and Llanowar Elf.
Turn 2: Swamp and Dark Ritual and then tap the Forest and Llanowar and then play Natural Order and sac your Llanowar Elf and then BAM, theres your Progenitus in two turns.

Only 4 Cards and then you pwnage on your foe, Dragon Arch( to bring this bad boy out), Primal Rage(to give it Trample without targeting it so YES IT will work), Gratuitous Violence(dare I say more?) Progenitus then pwnage time.

i love this card. dont have any but still its awesome! i really like the artwork. i met jaime jones and he drew it onto a playmat for me. woo! anyways this card is quite awesome and if you think about it, it really isnt so invincible... especially with eldrazi out to make them sacrifice permanents.

There is at least one way to give it trample. There are probably more, but this is the only one I could think of. There is a green enchantment called Primal Rage that says that creatures you control have trample. Since it is not a targeted effect, it works in spite of Progenitus' protection.

[admin edit: Overrun, and Garruk are just a couple off the top of my head that will give trample to him. There are plenty of ways to buff Progenitus and get around his Pro everything. As to the guy above you cannot get around the "Legendary rule" with protection from everything. Pro everything will not stop the state based effects of a game rule. Sorry but both Progenitus will die.]

Alas, the god of magic. You will almost never be able to play him. But there are some very successful ways of doing it there's Mirror of Fate, Aether Rift, Elvish Piper, Composite Golem and Kaho, Minamo Historian are just some ways to do it. I'm trying to work Progenitus into my other deck right now. You just need two of any of these cards in your deck and you'll get progenitus out at a moderate turn if you draw him.

the card is overly awesome, i agree, but all you have to do is destroy it with a no-color creature that has wither, like lockjaw snapper. too small, eh? just pump it up with an experiment kraj and lay down a darksteel forge. GOODBYE PROGENITUS!!! of course there's always the option of a darksteel colossus or an infused arrows pumped up with energy chambers.

While Progenitus is undoubtedly one of the most powerful creatures in the game of Magic, it also has some large drawbacks, the largest being its cost, of course. 2 mana of every color is an almost insurmountable barrier in play against a competent foe. However, cards like Dramatic Entrance (Shadowmoor) and Elvish Piper (coming out again in M10) will easily let you cast this monster of a hydra god.
While its "Protection from everything" clause is ridiculously unprecedented, Progenitus is not indestructable (unlike Darksteel Colossus) and will fall to something like Wrath of God, sacrifice effects, or other non-targeting destruction effects like those of Fight to the Death. Furthermore, that protection means that you can't equip, enchant, or target your own Progenitus, so, for example, you CAN'T use Might of Oaks on it to give it +7/+7 (although you can pump it with static abilities like those of Rafiq of the Many or Mayael's Aria).
In addition, you can't return from your graveyard to play (as by Reya Dawnbringer) or to your hand because it goes back into your deck.
Progenitus is good and is godlike in play but has its disadvantages.

i may be of the mark here, but it seems this thing could be stopped by a magus of the moat, a 4 mana white creature that stops all creatures without flying from attacking, just a thought.

i dont understand why every one wants to put trample on it, ITS UNBLOCKABLE!!
lol its a good card but is it worth building a deck around?
if you wanted a turn 5 or 6 turn kill deck why not just invest your money on say... dragonstorm, goblin storm, bridge from below...etc
but yer, i guess it would be more unique and cool to just have a fat industractable creature...
0

LOL.

Whoever said to team this up with Primal Rage needs to seriously reconsider...
Trample is only good if the creature is blocked; nothing can block this creature.
In other words, trample is pointless to give to this creature.
Grat Violence, on the other hand...6

Only downside I see is that it's second ability prevents it from being in a reanimator deck due to the fact that it cant go into a graveyard.

Hey, Soul of the worlds spokesperson, you can't put a Rancor on it because the enchantment won't be able to target it...Still a good card in the right deck, can you say "Defense of the Heart?" Take it along with another creature that can give it haste right away.

Who dares to rate the soul of the world badly? The cost is ridiculous but there are so many ways around it I wont even start. Get it out and smack on a rancor or something to make it trample then trample away. And if someone accually manages to kill it, no worries, lets see them do it twice :P.

Wow this card is awesome. Pretty much no chance of playing it for it's mana cost so find alternate means. I traded for a playset and am making a R/B deck with Mindwrack leige, quicksilver amulet and Jhora. Green would probably be better with tooth and nail, defense of the heart and elvish piper.
Oh and if I had actually got this card in limited I would have played it for kicks.

Whoever said the artwork was amazing, yes i totally agree, and whoever said to wither it with a no-color, that won't work because it has protection from EVERYTHING, that INCLUDES NON-COLORED CARDS like artifacts, and it's already nearly impossible to wither since you can't damage it or target it. Just pull a mutilate or barter in blood and it's gone. It's not exactly the most invincible thing in the world. Plus, if you do manage to pull it out, you're going to become an instant target. It's almost like you want to die first or something.

Despite peoples methods I don't understand why you would care that you can't 'remove' it. Despite peoples best efforts a turn 4 WoG simply trumps most peoples method and wins out due to the amount of spells dedicated to it. Even for the T2 Natural Order (etc) a cruel edict effect of which there is many is still there for it.

For me the best method I personally find is to not rush to get him out early. Rather Suspend it with Jhoira then simply cast a board wiper like Obliterate before it comes into play to wipe the board clean (or suspend obliterate on opponents end step, then suspend progentius on the next turn - this way they can't float mana to play a spell such as diabolic edict). This way they have no mana, no permanents except enchantments/planewalkers and best of all it can't be countered. Unfortunately this way however you don't get the satisfaction of turning him sideways as most people concede.

Also why give a creature that can't be blocked trample o_O

Timmy card to the max. Turn 4 kill:
T1- Forest, Sakura Tribe Scout
T2- Urza land, Llanowar Elves, tap Scout for another Urza land
T3- Complete Urzatron, Tooth and Nail for Magister Sphinx and Progenitus. Set opponent's life to 10.
T4- Win.

It's a generic huge creature. The only thing that really makes it stand out is its unblockability. Extended Tooth and Nail has a new toy, alongside Magister Sphinx.

...sigh. It's an extremely powerful creature that will kill your opponent in two turns. Since he has protection from EVERYTHING, he can't be blocked or otherwise touched by any target effecting spell once he's in play. He also can't truly be removed except for a small handful of cards that remove untargeted creatures from the game. However...he requires two mana of each color to cast, so he's very, very difficult to get into play without help from something else. There are cards which will allow him to come into play much sooner, such as Elvish Piper, Quicksilver Amulet or Dragon Arch, or even Mindwrack Liege, but be prepared to spend several cards in your deck to gracefully summon this beast.

I tried to trade a Friend for one of these.

It has Protection from Everything.

Protection from being in my deck, protection from being useful, protection from adding to the fun of magic, protection from card sleeves, protection from being cast, protection from tapping, protection from being shuffled so you have to just put it somewhere in the deck after the deck is shuffled, protection from search spells, protection from tutors, protection from milling, protection from removal from game, protection from "Legendary rule", protection from global enchantments, protection from world enchantments, protection from removing it from a deck before shuffling, which is a paradox, protection from the DCI, protection from the Battle Zone, protection from being used to benefit any other spell....

EVERYTHING MEANS EVERYTHING, which is why I needed this card, although, it has protection from trading hands, hence, one star.
