I quite like this card. As a casual player who doesn't really use a banned list with my friends once I get the Urza lands out I can successfully cast this for as little as 3 of my lands.

Why are people so angry. That one guy was complaining about a lack of strategy or something? Darksteel + anything is just a tactic. Strategies tend to be made of many smaller tactics. 9 mana? Who actually pays full price for artifacts that cost more than 5. If you do then Master transmutor will cry and will tell all your other good stuff to never topdeck for you again.

Anyways its a good card. Black and green will most likely get nerfed by this. Red can deal with this but red cards that exile artifacts tend to be rather limited. By that I mean they'd have to use up space in their deck specifically for artifact removal. So basically the jund colors aren't just gonna breeze through this too easily. So blue bounce theft and counter, cheap white exile, and possibly some amazing red card are your biggest worries. All of which can be dealt with using common simple and flexible solutions like negate or some random library searching thing to get a new one out.

Also this card provides a fun challenge for those who weren't prepared for it.

@ that guy from Jersey

Ummmmm how do you figure you can destroy indestructible permanents? About the only counter I've figured out for this is Steal Artifact (once it's on the battlefield) or return to hand. Indestructible is indestructible. I'd like you to elaborate your plan that makes you laugh maniacally as you destroy something that is indestructible. Although I'd laugh maniacally if someone played it and I stole it :)

That being said my personal fav is Darksteel Forge + Mycosynth Lattice + Nevinyrral's Disk. Because Nevinyrral's Disk is not a sacrifice ('destroys' itself normally on its activated ability), the Forge keeps it in play and can be used each turn. Every turn you wipe all battlefields except your own. That's maniacal laughter......

Darksteel Forge + Mycosynth Lattice + shatterstorm. The less obvious but no less brutal combination.

i think most of the people who commented negatively on this card have probably changed their tone by now.. if you've ever been on the opposite end of this card, you realize reeeeal quick how good it is. it's not legal in standard play anymore, obviously, but it's very legal in casual formats like EDH (which i play) and Forge is a staple in any deck that has a sufficient number of artifacts. I run one in my Karn deck (surprise) and i run one in my Oona deck that has a heavy artifact sub-theme..

it's funny how a lot of players dis insanely good cards like this one because it is cheap, cheap as in an easy win, fun for casual play, i can understand a dislike for this card if your a serious play for money in tournaments you wouldn't want to lose because of a cheap, easy play like this card and Platinum Angel, but as for me, i wouldn't care if i lost because of a two-card win, it's just an extremely good amazing game, meant to be fun

Just add a Pariah's Shield on any artifact creature.... Now all damage you take is redirected to an indestructable creature. Use Mana Vault and Sol Ring to get it out faster.

though i do give darksteel forge a five...it still does have weaknessess, nine mana is pretty steep, creatures that have no toughness will be sent to the graveyard immediatly, regardless of indestructable, and one of the ulitmate card against the forge...razias purification, indestructable or not they still must be sacrificed and therefor out of play...i hate when noobs dont read the rules of abilities or see a fattie for cheap (8/8 flyer for 3 mana with HUGE drawbacks) or instant win (phage the UNPLAYABLE) and think its the best card ever...EVERY CARD HAS A WEAKNESS...even the cards that are banned for being TOO GOOD have weaknessess

In an artifact deck (Modular based being the obvious choice) with some white and black thrown in, such as leathal vapors with planer guide, you can leave your oppenant with a choice of the lesser of two evils (lose a turn to destroy leathal vapors or take massive damage) combo this up some white damage preventers and your a time bomb waiting to blow them up

try this combo: dark steel forge, nuisance engine, disciple of the vault, blinkmoth urn, lemengrid sentinell, dross scorpion, krark-clan grunt, and broodstar, and a card that gives you 2 mana every time a creature comes in to play. you get intinite dammage and infinate power for brood star.

PS: this is cool!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Darksteel Forge + Fist of Suns + Mycosynth Lattice + Any creature with Sunburst = Lots of pain for the other guy. Yes you can remove the Darksteel Forge or the Fist of Sun or the Mycosynth Lattice, but it would be fun to play.

Has a high mana cost but if you put this card in an artifact deck with board cleaners like wrath then you survive but they dont. Then you use tezzeret and your done.

on its own or in many combos it is not very good, but one that I have found it difficult to counter in is a blue deck, they just use forms of cancel on my exiles, with mishra's workshops getting it out as soon as turn 4 before, and nevinyrral's disk that wipes the board, including itself, but with this the disk is not destroyed.

I partially agree with the guy who gave one star. If a combo is so obvious, then it is terrible. Find one that is difficult to think of.

You idorks really have to think, ESPECIALLY with a lot of anti-destruction-artifact-removal going around. Darksteels just got crucified in Scars of Mirrodin, there's so many anti-indestructible cards in there you wouldn't believe. Platinum Angel and Darksteel Forge? Don't make me laugh while I can Path to Exile or Condemn your piece of crap, and then just laugh at you losing the game for such a fragile combo. Darksteel Forge itself is vulnerable to removal such as Revoke Existence, a 1W that EXILES target ARTIFACT or enchantment. Or look at infect creatures, which deal wither damage and eventually cause your "indestrutibles" to fall apart from 0 toughness. Face it, Darksteels just got wrecked. Oh, and 9 mana? Really? You couldn't play something better than this for 9 mana? By 9 mana you should be finishing things up. Any blitz deck will rip apart this deck in 4-6 turns easy.

*Sigh* Darksteel Forge is just another example of how dumb Wizards of the Coast thinks magic players are. They think that by creating combos that are more obvious than a mole on a witch's nose they are somehow improving the game and tournament play. What upsets me more is how much the newer players are eating up this load of raw human fecile matter like it's caviar. If anyone tries to pull this indestructable Darksteel Forge Platinum Angel B.S. on me, it'll be them that cries when I laugh maniacally and rip their precious artifacts to pieces and prove that no artifact should be deemed "indestructable". Why don't you learn strategy? Give me a call when you're ready to play with the big boys.
