Pretty awesome card. There are ways to make this card easier to attain and the mana speeding of green is many faceted. Elves are a great way to speed your mana production: llanowar elves, fyndhorn elves, priest of titania, fyndhorn elder, wirewood channeler just to name a few. I myself run the above mentioned elves with khalni hydra protean hydra wellwishers for life gain overrun for trample and now Im going to work this card into the deck. Having 8 1G mana elves (used to run mana chickens too) helps getting one in the opening hand. Ive had a good deal and had a khalni hydra out by turn 3 with this deck t1 forest llanowar, t2 another forest fyndhorn elder, t3 forest 8/8 trample khalni hydra

Not amazing for a competitive deck, but for an EDH green ramp ish deck, it is very useful. Wanna kill their eldrazi? Slagwurm. Or play your own Ulamog. This card is decent, not worth 5 stars though.

To the above reviewer: "turn four easy"... yeah, right! Just because you got lucky with your draw doesn't mean anything. I mean, honestly, you would have probably been better off with a Garruk's Packleader at that point because you could then refill your hand with Garruk's 3/3 tokens.

Engulfing Slagwurm, however, is awesome. Not because you can get it out early with a lucky draw, but because it's very hard to deal with once it's out on the battlefield. It kills its blockers and gives you life, takes down attacking creatures and gives you more life, kills an opponent in 3 hits and is pretty much impervious to most burn spells.
Combos very well with Lure or Nemesis Mask.

The only real downside about it is the high manacost and lack of trample. Giving it trample results in the Slagwurm dealing direct damage to your opponent after the blockers are destroyed by its ability, so I'd definitely recommend looking into cards like Rancor and Primal Rage, and the manacost means that it won't see play before the late game, lest you're running a mana ramp deck.
