Koth is powerful in many ways. If you get him out fast, you can use him for quick beat down if you are going against a control (and able to get him out of course). If you are playing with a burn deck and against a RUG you can make your opponents Mountains into creatures and kill them to avoid getting your face bolted (and keep a mana advantage). His second ability isn't utilized too much for red in standard, but if you are playing a well balanced mono red that is not trying to win on turn 4 (which few red decks do now), then Koth provides you that boost to get out your inferno titan on turn 5 (if you are playing slow) with turn 4 being possible. Obviously he is only built for mono red, but mono red is often undersold. His ultimate, if you are able to get it, puts more of a clock on the game the Jace. By that time you will have 5+ mountains, just keep tapping out at your opponents end step to burn them to death. An amazing card (and probably my favorite planeswalker).

I picked one up in the first 10 boosters I bought along with 4 other mythics. Traded him in a few days later picked up 5 more boosters and got another. I'm going to keep Koth this time around though.

First blue gets Jace the Mind Sculptor aka the newest power card now we red players get Koth. Possibly one of the best red cards made ever. Keep him alive for one turn use his second ability and bam ten mana to burn your opponent with however you please.

Just a great Planeswalker. Obviously Mountain happy but that''s okay...This remains one of the main kills in a mono{R} LD deck of mine. Drop this turn 4, (-2) for 4, then Avalanche Riders or Rolling Earthquake for 3. Don''t often (+1) it''s first turn since my main goal is to keep my opponent stuck at (3-4)/(2-3) lands.  But this can result in basically 4 dmg a turn/untap target mountain for lightning bolt while still casting all my LD every turn. Or clear the board with Rolling Earthquake then (+1) for 4 more.
