This card is hits the board as soon as it''s drawn, thus evading Hymns & Hippies! It plays especially nice with Dolmen Gate and Etched Champion! Let the fun begin!

To my suprise this is a hard card to come by, even in the booster packs. I got all 3 plainswalkers from the set and I still did not get a Memnite, AND ITS A UNCOMMON CARD?

Honestly, this is probably one of the best cards in the set, in the long-term. Plansewalkers all suffer from being essentially 4 or 5 mana for just as much life, since they die the turn they hit the table, and metalcraft effects are only good in-block, since there arent that many artifacts people maindeck in casual play (vintage players always win on the first turn, so making their decks stronger really doesn't matter anymore). While ornithopter is good, it's usually played in an affinity-ish artifact heavy deck or as a cheap early blocker that can be protected in control decks. The overall utility of a free 1/1 is tremendous. While it's unlikely it's going to revolutionize a format, since standard is dominated by decks that spend 300 on their land base alone, it's a great utility card that can find a place in most any deck, and it's a much more attractive creature than ornithopter for general-purpose use. Not likely to see use in unlimited-budget tournament decks, but a great addition to casual decks everywhere.

After commenting on Ornithoper, I thought I should comment here too. Memnite is a somewhat improved Ornithoper. It doesn't have flying and 1 less toughness, but it has a bit of offence! For no cost, that is pretty amazing. It can also be used with cards like Steel Overseer and Tempered Steel, with perhaps a bit of proliferate or metalcraft, to become amazing useful. With Tempered Steel, it is a 3/3 for 0! If you already happened to have Steel Overseer out, it gets even better since it can get another +2/+2 (1 on turn you play, 1 on turn it can attack). So with a lucky opening hand, you could have 4 4/4 Memnites able to attack and swing for game by turn 3!
(Your hand would need to be something like 4 Memnite and 3 Plains with Steel Overseer and Tempered Steel draws. First turn 4 Memnites and a Plains, second turn a Plains and Steel Overseer with 4 Memnites attacking for 4, third turn a Plains and Tempered Steel with a Steel Overseer boost and 4 Memnites attacking for 16, which could be game... unlikely to happen though)
Either way, this card is amazing, especially with Tempered Steel and Steel Overseer. Even with just Steel Overseer in your deck it is a good choice (or with just Tempered Steel, but that is more obvious =p)!

Yes, Dave, two recent precons have 2 copies of memnite each, actually. "Battle Cries" from Mirrodin Besieged has a pair as does "Metalcraft" from Scars of Mirrodin.

As mentioned earlier, this card doesn't see much tier 1 play, but it is excellent for casual play. Seen it used a bit at my local FNM, which doesn't have too many people running close to pro-level decks.
