Almost a bad decision to print... but they made it legendary and gave it Metalcraft. In my standard red agro, it helps to average a turn 3 victory. Also I see it ran in w/b control.

Mox opal is an interesting card, because, due to being a legendary mana source, the stronger it becomes in any given metagame, the weaker it is because more people will end up running it. This could potentially throw off your mana curve. However, I'm giving it a 5/5 because overall it is very strong in a vacuum.

I run 4 in a legacy artifact deck and this card is invaluable to said deck. i also have a standard deck running 3, the Opals are pretty amazing, and just because their legendary doesn't hurt them too much, keeps them from being restricted/banned.

in any artifact deck, this is amazing. Feeds off its own metalcraft and it is a free artifact. great for mana boost. And for all of you idiots out there who think it is hard to get metalcraft, learn how to play magic. like someone said, there are three other artifacts with a cmc of zero, plus plenty of cheap ones. If you are playing scars of mirroden, most of your cards will be artifacts or artifact creatures. even if you don't get this out until third or fourth turn, mana boost is nice. Lastly, you get any color of mana from it, so it can be played in any deck. None of the origonal five moxen can do that.

I love this card. It's the only way to pull off a turn 2 win in standard right now. Or does every one else not see that combo. Not going to say how (cause i don't want to face it in turnys) but i will give a hint. It involves some glinthawks and a goblin bushwacker or two. And yea the legendary part sucks but if it weren't for that anyone who didn't own one wouldn't have a chance in a turnament anymore, so i think it was a good call.

really well designed on wizard's part. kept from being broken with the legendary and metalcraft, and kept from totally sucking with the no extra card disadvantage. will see play in almost every vintage deck (thanks to all the other moxes) and even as a 4 of in legacy affinity, where you want to draw it for the ramp/fixation and can sac it to ravager if you draw extras

This card is stupid (in a good way). My main experience with it is its use in Affinity in Legacy; we don't have to run Aether Vial anymore.

If this card was not legendary it would be worth 5 times the amount it is right now. BUT also this card being legendary it is not worth what it is selling for. Even though I got one in a booster pack.

I run an artifact deck that is definantly now standard and manage to get the one mox opal i have out every other game. It work extremely well with artifact lands and low drop artifacts in general. If you like artifacts it's an amazing card if not, it may not be for you.

unfair, and way too expensive for casual players to enjoy the sweetness of this mana fix

Great card in many different formats. Potentially powerful, you kinda have to play around it yourself. Which means extras drawn, become dead unless you just so happen to have an artilerize or something in hand. But I'm personally glad that WotC printed this, just makes the poor mans Engineered Explosives (ratchet bomb) that much more useful.

Mox Opal is a very good card I'm sure it will see a lot of standard play, but I give it only 4 stars because unless you are running a deck with heavy artifacts, it is not near as useful as any of the other moxes

@thomas cox
you only need two more artifacts since it counts towards itself and also Memnites will do just nicely or even Ornithopters. Only gave it four because of being legendary which limits it a lot.

Most of you previous raters have forgotten that there are three 0 mana cost artifacts that you could run in a deck with this card. These three cards being Ornithopter, Memnite, and Accorder's Shield. All of them are good to decent cards especially the Memnites and Ornithopters when paired with other cards like Tempered steel, but getting back to the matter at hand. The downside to Mox Opal is that it is legendary, that is why I gave it four stars instead of five. The casual deck way around it is Mirror Gallery, which makes the legend rule apply. And all you whiney raters that say it will be destroyed too soon, I have three cards for you, Turn Aside, Stoic Rebuttal and Narrow Escape. Nuff said.

I can see this not working too well in a non-artifact deck, as it would be hard to get the metalcraft online before your opponent could basically stomp you.

But, let's not forget that Scars is a very heavy artifact set, and with that, there's a lot of artifacts that CAN and WILL be added to decks for the metalcrafting. It won't see much tournament, IMO, but this card is great for casual and I wouldn't mind running one or two in my U/W artifact deck. I mean, you only need two other artifacts to get metalcraft online with this since it too is an artifact.

It's okay. Metalcraft (not to mention the legendary title) limits its ability quite a bit. It's similar to Lotus Cobra. I mean, the recent "Myr Reversal" deck that came out on Arcana recently looks all well and good, but I still only see casual instead of tournamnet play in the future.

good card...but definatly not worth that much money -_- only works in artifact heavy decks... and in my oppinion, only in affinity decks... plus its a legendary so u'll never be playing more then 3, and even 3 is a little much, so meh..

Not bad, but only shines in vintage/legacy storm decks that will already kill you on the first turn anyway... For the average player, most decks arent going to be able to support metalcraft effects and still get anything done.

Meh. Unless you've had an extraordinarily naughty first turn and get Metalcraft online quick, chances are your opponent is going to blast your pretty little Mox off the board before you get the chance to use it. So while it's nice in theory, I don't see it making too huge a splash. You know, apart from being another Mox.

this card sucks now if u could use for 3 mana over one then it would be worth the cost of 3 artafact to use other than that it not a good card worthless

WAY overrated card.... does nobody else realize that if simply the word "mox" was omitted from this card, that it would be 15$ cheaper.
