For me, Dragon Tyrant is what defined the Scourge set as the coolest and best set back when I started playing Magic. I didn't for sure know what each of the other sets contained, but I knew one thing: Scourge had dragons. Big badass dragons. And as a new player with a red burn deck, I really found myself of big creatures to beat my friends' green/white beatdown decks.

Oh how I miss the good old times of Magic where Dragon Tyrant just wouldn't die unless your opponent sat with a black removal deck... Nowaday, you rarely see a deck that isn't splashing black for some kind of removal, which means that the expensive powerhouses of old will rarely see play today :S

As a dragon user preferably a dragon master such as myself i rate this a full 5 stars. You can play this card so easily and use it to beat down your opponent with his abilities. Though I prefer to use blue because any card can be easily cancelled such as this one.

Play 4 mana flares, a Circle of Protection: Red, dragon tyrant. good yes but risky yes.

There are many ways of pulling this monster of a dragon out without paying 10 mana. One way is belbe's portal,((Quick end effective)) or use DragonSpeaker Shamans' to reduce dragon tyrants cost by 2 for each one you have out. Once he's out a 6/6 flying, trample, double strike, and self pumpable dragon is something you don't want to be on the receiving end.

3 mountains + seething song + sneak attack + dragon tyrant(with another in hand) = 6/6 flying, haste, double strike... thats 12 damage on turn three, then on turn four, tap one mountain to your sneak attack, play the second dragon tyrant, thats turn 4 kill...

For a cheaper way to play this card, discard it and return it to play with Bladewing the Risen

This card is the leader of my deck and is almost indestructible being a 6/6 and having double strike i recomend this card in a deck with imperial hellkite.

I got lucky one time and was able to get it out on turn 3. Here is how...t1: swamp, Dark Ritual, Buried Alive. T2: Mountain, Braid of Fire. t3, mountain, Iron Myr, Exhume. t4, attack with the Tyrant. t5, attack with Tyrant again, gg. I have only gotten that lucky once but I have loved this guy ever since.

Dragon tyrant is good yes but i say Bogarden hellkite is better.i mean how much more awesome can you get than a 1 turn kill? 3 Rite of Flames then a seething song to play dragonstorm, bring out all 4 bogarden hellkites. 20 damage anyway you choose. i love doing that XD i do need to buy some dragon tyrants to make my drag deck better tho.

LIKE the other guy said put this with an imperial hellkite. Get it into ur hand and then just destroy. The 4 mountains a turn isnt that bad, but that is the only downside to this card. This is a big-difference-maker in a game.

It's obvious the 10 mana cost is ridiculous
But try this:play an apprentice necromancer then play a buried alive dragon tyrant
Sacrifice the necromancer and get 12 damage to your opponent with the dragon. I've donne this on turn 3.
