These lands are epic win. If you can't see that, maybe you should play Yu-Gi-Oh!.... They get you dual lands, which in vintage is key to winning. Hulk Smash, the best deck in the world (arguably) uses like 6 sac lands. So..... maybe if pros like Kai Bud use them, you should get your head out of your posterior and use them too. Also, they kick serious tail in mono-color decks as well. Five stars just doesn't seem enough, now does it?

I seriously can't understand why SOME people think that the fetch lands are bad. Have you guys ever seen matches from the Pro Tour or the Worlds? No one plays without these in their deck!
- that's because getting out of mana screws are crucial for getting a good start and winning the game.

1 or 3 life on your first turn - saccing Arid Mesa to find a Sacred Foundry, for example - doesn't mean you'll lose the game if you are getting something good out of it.

This land is soo good. Searching for a land and putting it onto the battlefield untapped is really awesome, and it even lets you search for the Ravnica Dual-lands and the Alpha-Unlimited dual lands.
Some people clearly doesn't understand the importance of this card in some decks. Fetchlands are a really great way of solving mana problems, and they allow for a more streamlined start, as opposed to, say, Terramorphic Expanse, which only searches basics and puts them onto the battlefield tapped. Not to say that Terramorphic is bad - on the contrary, it's really, really nice to have a common wannabe fetchland - but Arid Mesa and the other fetchlands are just that much better. If you play with them in the right color deck, the rare fetchlands can mean the difference of a slow start and a blazing start - Terramorphic Expanse can't do that, because it's limited to basics and put them onto the battlefield tapped, robbing it of the speed of the rare fetchlands.

As casual player I thought sac lands sucked too. Until I started adding them to my decks. Anyone giving these lands less than 4 stars either hasn't tried using them or is completely insane. They get the land you need when you need it, just doing that makes these lands worth their weight in gold. Add to that cards like Lotus Cobra, Ob Nixilis, and Emeria Angel and playing these in your decks becomes ridiculous.

Jim's a little clueless he posted the same thing about scalding Tarns. Truth be told, I've seen games end consistently end on fourth or fifth turn with affinity, so saying a turn doesn't matter is a bit ridiculous. These are superior to ghost quarter because, You can search for a Stomping Grounds (Since it's a Mountain/Forest) play your first turn Kird Ape (Wild Nactl) and have a 2/3 or 2/2 first turn. Kinda Nice, I just need to play a plains (Or another arid) and my Wild will even out our life totals as your using your terra for your forest...Have fun with that.

Hey Jim from Wisconsin, you ever heard of Dual lands or shock lands. Cause guess what you can search for them with these filter lands. They allow you to get the land you need and thin your deck out. Anyone that thinks filter lands are horrible needs to go look at the top decklists of legacy. Decks like Zoo run 9 filters and 11 mana based lands. So you lose 1 life to get your taiga out of the bottom of your library, but now you have a land in your graveyard to pump Tarmogoyf and your feeding your Kird apes and Wild Nacatls. AMAZING!!!

1. Since the land it fetches doesn't come into play tapped, it's 2 lands in one turn for LANDFALL with the tiny drawback of having to pay 1 life.
2. it thins your library of basic lands, making your top decks more worthwhile.

For those who seem confused, this card searches for a plains or mountain. It doesn't say a basic plains or mountain. As others have noticed already that makes it a very good search engine for 1 life.I gave it 4 stars only because I like control style decks and usually take a beating before my deck wins. That means a couple life could cost me the game.

This is basically a new version of Terramorphic Expanse, except that Expanse let's you search for any basic land type, doesn't cost life? Lightning Blow now has competition for the title of most useless rare ever printed.
