Vampire Lascerator is a beast! He's an "improved" Carnophage in the way that he stios requiring the upkeep payment when your opponent reaches 10. Of course, playing him in a late, stalled game where your opponent has more than 10 life seems like suicide (where Carnophage could just remain tapped untill needed).

Either way, the Lascerator is a great creature that provides power at the cost of life - a perfect it for black.

My philosophy has always been "Life is a resource, Use it!" and this fits that bill. I still prefer Carnophage over this in Tribal themed decks (Zombie/Vampire) because zombies have more versitile lords. But this replaces Carnophage in almost every other regaurd. Though Carnophage still has better Art/Flavor, and holds a place in my heart for being soo classic!

Loosing life always sucks but when you have a 2/3 with the nighthawk (lifelink flying and deathtouch) it doesnt matter you will gain the lost life back anyway. You just keep attacking until the lacerator dies. Your opponent is either loosing two life per turn to your one or loosing thier one drops. You can even put on the basalisk collar and he can gain back the life lost on his own. When they get out something bigger you dont have to worry about loosing life anymore. Good card to get the opponents life down during the beginning of the game. Turn one lacerator, turn two bloodghast, turn three nighthawk, turn four nocturnus, turn five Malakir Bloodwitch. lots of death.

Umm... with a nocturnus bonus it is a 4/3 flying 1 drop. See how many times you have to lose a life with that thing slapping them in the face. I will take a life or two away from my total to kill them. Seems like a no-brainer, if that guy is saying they suck it is just because he plays garage magic with his buddies and has no real understanding of aggroblack.

This is a great one drop, and if you find your losing life faster than you'd like, sac it to pump up your Vampire Aristocrat. These vampires in Zendikar are designed to work together.

Ahh, Jim from Wisconson. You hate on fetchlands, you hate on Vampire Lacerator...why? These are great cards and only because you lose life when you play them does not mean you're going to lose the game. In a well constructed Vamp Aggro deck, the Lacerator can be a great weapon for your one drop. Any other players with a one drop creature are sure to be 1/1 or lower and will be destroyed next turn. This is the theme of black, you can win but you're going to pay the price. Two steps forward, one step back.

Anyway...Lacerator is a great one drop and other cards like Sorin Markov, Blood Tribute, and Sign in Blood will get your oppenents life below ten faster than you think.

I agree that this is a great 1 drop, but I am gonna go ahead and flat out disagree with some of you on the reason. I like him because even though he costs you 1 life each turn, he can deal twice that much damage to your opponent. It shouldn't matter that you have lost 10 life if your opponent has lost 20. I am not, however going to agree that he is great because he benefits from Vampire Nocturnus, because to me this argument seems very similar to the severely flawed logic of those who claim that a card is bad because they can counterspell it.

Not bad, for a quick 1 black. With a cheap buff added on (flying/lifelink) it more than makes up for pinging you and is worth getting out first turn.

^Just because all the other reviews point out the valid usefulness of this card, doesnt make the posters arrogant- maybe your wrong. *gasp*

Creatures like this, Jackal Pup, and Filthy Cur just make me laugh. OK, so it's a creature you can play for only 1 mana. So What? it's a friggin' 2/2 that costs you life and has no other abilities. Speed is important in this game, but playing a bunch of cards quickly does no good if those cards are as counter-productive as this one is. This thing will almost certainly be more damaging to you than it is to your opponent.
