The Minotaur was held in the Labyrinth built by the architect Daedalus for King Minos of Crete. He wondered the maze hunting and stalking down every one whom sat foot in it. The sounds of his scream and trampleing through the corridors was said to make men go mad with fear. The greek hero Theseus eventually slayed the beast in terrible combat.
