great card, try adding a few reflecting pools to your deck with city of brass, then you can get any color and not take the point of damage, and you can also tap the city, use crop rotation and get that special land you need to win your game. (can anyone say tolarian academy?) this is one of the best lands that wizards has ever produced, the (well, ,my favorite) best land i think out there, well a tie, is stripmine, and keljorian outpost. to me, stripmine totally ruins an apponents mana curve, and the outpost, well, making 1/1 soldiers every turn, that to me gets ulgy!

i rate cards according to the playability in decks.. and this card is definitely playable in ANY deck that has more than one color.. this card was the KING of Type-II.. why it's lost popularity, i have no idea. sure there's thran quarry.. one of my favs, but, it's only great in certain creature based decks. there's the pain lands, but, you only get 2 colors (for a point of damage) and a colorless.. BOP is an awesome card, but is easily desposed of. far and away City of Brass is the all-time greatest mana-producing land.. even better than dual lands in many cases.

Thran quarry, birds of paradise, pulse of llanowar are all good cards but they don't work in my deck the way City of Brass does. I have no creatures so Thran quarry is right out. Kinda puts the birds in a similar position as they would be introducing creatures, but they also arn't as fast as city of brass and they can be easily killed. If I'm really just shy that one color of mana my opponent isn't typically going to let my birds be cast, or tapped if they can help it. Pulse of llanowar is a nice card, but I don't have any basic lands in my deck, and like the birds it requires I have some green available. City of Brass is perfect for me, no casting cost, can't be countered, its a land, but like somebody else said, sometimes you just need that splash of color, and thats where this comes in real handy. My deck is near rainbow (no green currently) and most of the spells require just a splash of color and then colorless to play, so city of brass gives me access to anything I could draw for just 1 damage. In my book thats a good deal.

certain cards are just so boringly good and thorough. it's just a given and that no one sees the need to really write or talk about. duh, five colors for a pain is good. from type1 to 2 and even block, it just keeps on giving. now that's out of the way let's introduce a bit of mystery or more a question. this is the best version of 'city of brass' in all of MTG bar none and that includes the 'arabian nights' version. why? let's count the ways. its a foil, the actual tints that foils usually bring out are darker and richer than the original, also the kick-butt quote on the text phrasing also missing in the original. this card is easily underpriced for both it kool factor and its playability. folks are going to figure out what they're missing someday and drive this baby up two ta' three times its present value. oh, and the seventh edition foil? sorry, doesn't come close......

Now don't get me wrong. This card isn't terrible. It's just comparitively bad. Thran quarry, birds of paradise, pulse of llanowar - do these cards mean anything to you? compared to what is available for any mana, the city is just not in contention. If you don't have these cards then fine - but there are far, far better alternatives. This is not a five-star card, not by a long chalk.

This is a 5 star card! 1/20 of your lives is worth it to put out that multiple color card, dealing the winning blow to an opponent or setting him/her up for the kill. Combine it with a card like urzas armor and victory is at hand.

This card is so versatile for type 1 or type II decks.How many times do you need just a splash of one color in a deck, it's so worth it to pay a point of damage to get that tiny color. And how many times have we had a great opening hand but never enough mana except for the city. It pulls us though the game until we get all the colors we need. Also the new art is so good, i am so glad that they put it back in seventh and if wizards put it back then you know it's a great card.
