Not only that, but it is "loss of life" which can't be prevented. Probably my favorite current standard countermagic.

the first reviewer said it all. planeswalkers and really all of the ultimatums are huge threats. counterspell plus a free shock?! yes, please!

this card is amazing in the current standard. this is a 2 mana solution to many threats that populate every top deck in the format. its 2 mana solution to plainswalkers, cruel ultimatum, spectral procession, path to exile, and even the mighty cryptic command. and on top of that, it punishes your opponents for the attempt. an exemplary choice in any counter war.

Only thing I can nix about this card is it doesn''t touch creature spells. But given the colors that''s an easy fix. I run this as a 4-of with Dash Hopes over conventional counterspells, since my goal is to close the noose over my opponent''s neck--and it feels better to win when they''re given the choice of their own demise. Though Dash Hopes and this can lose to combo, but that''s the price you pay for the life loss
