a nasty piece of work, i love it, i run it in my quest for the holy relic deck because im too cheap to buy swords. this plus fireshrieker in that deck means im consistently winning by turn four.

I run in my Shadow Deck and it simply owns... Though Double-Strike is sounding very tempting.

Unblockable, trample, lure and this go great together. Esper decks can really abuse this, as can any horde. But double strike has to be the best. 1/1 hits--they're at 9 life. Awesome

Rakdos Ickspitter will not work with the spike the way the reviewer above suggests. The spike specifies that the effect triggers when the creature deals combat damage, but the damage from the Ickspitter's ability is not combat damage.

Double strike makes a creature deal first strike and normal damage, so the spike's ability would trigger two separate times. A bit expensive, but awesome if you've got a creature that is unblockable and/or has double strike.

I believe this is even better with deattouch than the previous guy said. According to the mechanics of double strike, using the 1/1 as an example, it would deal 1 damage first strike, which would trigger the ability of the Spike, then the creature would deal another point of regular combat damage, which would trigger the Spike a second time. Keeping in mind that the damage from the creature resolves before the loss of life from the Spike triggers, I think a 1/1 with double strike equipped with this would actually put an opponent from 20 life to 4. 20-1 combat damage puts him at 19, then the Spike puts him at 9, then the creature deals 1 more combat damage, putting him at 8, then the Spike triggers and puts him at 4. I could be wrong here, but I'm pretty sure about this
